Because there aren't enough photos on the internet of the Straw's Bridge Ring-necked Duck. Here are four more. Close enough to see the grey flanks are actually made up of vermiculations. Very nice. #UKBirding @derbyshirebirds.bsky.social

A thoroughly enjoyable week on Scilly. Highlights were Radde's Warbler, Serin, Common Rosefinch, Hoopoe, and L Yellowlegs. No lifers, and the pound to year tick ratio is quite high, but in those surroundings, who cares! No photos of Serin or Hoope due to operator error..๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ #UKBirding

Been using thermals for years now. Almost always reduces disturbance. Either by see and avoid flushing, or sweeping and clearing an area quicker. I would suggest relatively few birders/ toggers actually go out after dark. As always though, down to the individual as to whether it is used responsibly.

This Red-b-Flycatcher was the only decent bird to present itself without a fight today. The Pale-legged Leaf Warbler was a tricky blighter, taking 5 hrs to get what I deemed to be acceptable views. Nice to finish with Red-flanked Bluetail and a presumed Sibe Lesser Whitethroat, though! #ukrarebirds

Award winning photograph of the 2 juv Sabine's Gull at Redmires, Sheffield this morning. A terrific find by Richard Hill. Very well earned. #ukbirding #yorkshirebirding

๐Ÿ‘ Back in the days of large flocks of goldies. Nothing like those numbers these days. Ironically, the success of local Peregrines seems to be a contributory factor in the birds not hanging around.

A local Dotterel at South Anston, Rotherham was great find by Mick Clay in the #sk58birders area. Followed up with a Garganey and Red-c-pochard at Catcliffe Flash made for a useful morning. #ukbirds

28 years since my last big shearwaters in the UK. So gambled on a day trip to Scilly. Required an overnight drive down and a 9.5 hour return drive the next day. 15 Great, 30 Cory's Shearwaters and 12 Storm Petrels made the effort well worthwhile. All tricky to catch up with in Sheffield! #ukbirding

The 6 #jacksnipe on site last week had dropped to 3 today, as would be expected. All thermalled with #pulsar, and photo taken using #phoneskope #ukbirding ๐Ÿชถ

Sounds good for Moorhen. I get Moorhen and Water Rail from now on. With a second peak for WR in June. Females moving off to start a second brood elsewhere, I believe. How easy is the BirdNET_App to set up for an IT biff? I use an Audiomoth and Audacity, but an automated one sounds ideal.

Finally made the effort to add #blackgrouse to my Yorks list. These males were photographed from the car. A total of 17 seen in Arkengarthdale. Stunning, even in the drizzle! #ukbirding

Two Jack Snipe photographed a few minutes apart, one with the sun actually out! Minimum of 12 on site. At a site nearby, a Woodcock at dusk gave more typical views. One of a pair that seem to favour roosting under the same tree. #ukbirding ๐Ÿชถ

A couple of hours on the moorland fringe above Sheffield at dusk. Bitterly cold 4c with a nithering NE wind. The Shore Lark was still at Peat Pits with 440 Goldies and a Barn Owl. Elsewhere, another Barn Owl, and 2 Woodcock already roding and several drumming/chipping Snipe. #ukbirding
