Always a joy to join #EMBOMobileGenome -A week full of cool natureβs quirks and science along the friendliest crowd 𧬠Happy to have shared our work on ERVs in human brain evolution (talk by @jakobssonlab.bsky.social) and Parkinsonβs disease (poster by yours truly) π§

#EMBOMobileGenome Session 2 on transposon regulation π§¬
β‘οΈ'Epigenetic control of transcribed retroelements by the HUSH complex and associated factors' presented by Christopher Douse (Lund University, Sweden)
We love a good Q&A session as well! ππΌ

Had an absolute blast presenting my βLast Minute Breakthrough talkβ at #EMBOmobilegenome today! π₯ What an incredible crowd, the energy in the room was unreal. Huge thanks to the organizers for selecting me and to everyone who came, asked questions, and made it such a fun session! π
@raquelgarza.bsky.social from the Jakobsson Lab presented our recent work on single-cell omics (transcriptomics+ proteomics) within our ASAP project at the SciLifeLab Lund day. This work is being done in collaboration with #BioMS and @scilifelab.se. We are looking forward to the discoveries ahead π
Thrilled to share our story in its final form! nature.com/articles/s41... π₯ After ~10 years, we show that BMAL1 represses transposons via chromatin regulation in embryonic stem cellsβrather than circadian rhythms as in adult tissues.
π₯ New preprint! π₯
We show that transposons are directly linked to a cell-type and region specific inflammatory state in Parkinsonβs Disease π§ π¦

Cheers @anitaada.bsky.social for some more awesome science together πΎπ
Check out our latest work on L1 retrotransposons and their cis acting effect in early brain development π§ www.cell.com/cell-genomic...
Excited to share our latest work!! ππ
Thank you for all the amazing work and congratulations to @anitaada.bsky.social and all the coauthors! πΎ
New paper from our lab! We found that LINE-1 transposons contribute to early human brain development.

Very happy to share our protocols paper for CELLO-seq. This will make single cell long read RNA-seq more accessible and provides analysis guidelines. We hope this helps the #transposon #TEsky community and folks working on #singleCell isoform and allelic #gene expression. doi.org/10.1038/s415...
β° Abstract deadline for 'The mobile genome' is 29 July!

These past 2 months as a visiting scholar at KU Leuven flew by! It has been so enriching to work side by side with #TeamVoet on @jakobssonasap.bsky.social research into Transposable Elements & Parkinsonβs Disease π§ 𧬠Excited for whatβs next!

In this paper, CRN Team @jacksonlab.bsky.social found that LINE-1 transposable elements contribute to the complexity of the transcriptome in human pluripotent stem cells by acting as alternative promoters for approximately 100 genes.

Congrats @marliesoomen.bsky.social! π§¬πΎ Had been looking forward to see this paper since I heard of it in CSHL π Having it for JC next week π€
π§ π¬ Great meeting last Friday in Copenhagen between the Kirkeby and Jakobsson labs β exciting experiments coming up to investigate transposons in PD in vitro models! @asapresearch.bsky.social @kirkebylab.bsky.social @jakobssonlab.bsky.social
We profiled the effects of our CRISPRi system targeting young L1 elements in human pluripotency & brain development. These elements deeply impact our transcriptome, but also have very distinct effects on their nearby genome. Check it out!! π§¬πΎ

Tracking transposable element (TE) activity in genomics data can be a pain, but there are solutions! Our lab built TEtranscripts -- which we've updated to work for small RNAs (TEsmall), bulk RNA at the locus level (TElocal), and in single-cell data (TEsingle). Check it out!

Thank you Geoff!! π
π₯π¦ So proud of being part of this team!
Nice! Could you add me please?
𧬠π§ Excited to see it printed! We bring key insights on the epigenetic regulation of SVAs, including SVA-XDP: a polymorphic SVA driving a rare neurodegenerative disorder
