So… on a number line like this I know you could mark the number 0.5 and you could mark where the number ½ is, but where would you mark 50%? Or does 50% not fit on a number line?

Tips to move beyond a “lurker” (and/or start to interact with the Online Math Community) Like - Who benefits: You (it acts like a bookmark) & the Poster (“Yay someone liked what I said”) Repost - Who benefits: You (it acts like a bookmark), the Poster (“Wow, they liked enough to share it”) & the rest of us (Reposting sends it back to the top of the feed increasing the chance of your followers and their followers to see it) Comment - Who benefits: You (interaction brings more friends and knowledge), the Poster (the conversation they started continues) & us (entices us to become part of the conversation too) Post - Who benefits: You (sharing thoughts and resources help to hone your own ideas) & Everyone else (the more discussion, the higher the chance we all learn) Tips for making your Posts more visible: Add an image - including a visual has been shown to increase the interaction Include hashtags (not too many) - a hashtag categorizes your Post and makes it visible to a wider audience than just your followers. Number lines (of all sizes-on the floor, paper, wall) and relational rods are also very powerful.
Our research has revealed some simple yet powerful shifts in instruction that improve student understanding of fractions as quantities. #math #mathematics #fractions
We know students will see circles in early grades but hope that the models used for fractions are number lines, rectangles/ribbons and sets. The first models tend to stick with the students and circles are limited in terms of use. Enjoying the learning!
