Gethyn and the Wind Dragon is in the anthology! Read on for great dragon migrations, mythical beast healing and protagonists who are happily untalented in most things- unknowingly brilliant in others! Thank you @uvcompetition.bsky.social for choosing Geth! 🦄🍀🌱 #kidlituk #kidlit #writingforchildren

☆ The theme for Issue 07 is PUBLIC TRANSPORT ☆
Think the Cat Bus. Snakes on a Plane. Those tubes from Futurama. Abandoned underground stations. 3am airport layovers. The nightmare of taking the night train from Hanoi with non-air-conditioned hard seats (/trauma).

Orange box with black shading and a poem in black letters:

                               above ground

the ground is
cracked and desert dry
or lush with
grass green as jealousy
or all the other grounds
there are –
I no longer
know them with
my feet
since gravity stopped
working
one day of
overwhelm –
and now I hover
with no anchoring
with no saying whether
I am happier
here

Just bloody love #PoemsABout Fridays! Great inspiration with the #Gravity prompt. Thanks as ever to @thebrokenspine.co.uk and @alanparrywriter.co.uk
And happy Friday/weekend poets! 💜

As so many of us have said so often for a year now, any predatory man already ignoring laws forbidding assault isn't going to obey a 'bathroom ban'. Making life harder for trans people and many others with restrictions which will be impossible to enforce will do nothing to make any women safer.

I'm going to be honest, John, that first line reads a whole lot different on the other side of the pond...

the pit

the pit is not
a well

so stop thinking about a well

instead
imagine an endless trench
with sides sloping up and up
towards a thin slit

you look up there
and can't quite parse the distance
between yourself and the slit
or even whether it is large enough
to get through
if you ever had the courage
to begin
your
climb

There's no defying #Gravity from me this week.

Monsters - by Ian Brownlie

Do you believe in monsters?
Like that one found in a loch,
or the fella wrapped up in bandages
giving people such a shock.
Do I think there are monsters?
I’m not sure that I should,
but I’ve heard of a large-footed one
lurking deep inside a wood
Are you scared of monsters?
A dragon’s fire and claws?
Or the huge ape climbing buildings;
a giant reptile that roars?
Should we watch out for monsters?
We hear about them lots.
There’s a witch I’m sure who likes to boil
small children up in pots.
Is this world full of monsters?
Could zombies line my street?
Will I find a beast inside that maze?
Make my neck a vampire’s treat?
Do you believe in monsters?
Could these tales be true?
Well, if ever I bump into one,
I’ll be certain to warn you!

visited

inside this room
the air hangs
like heavy strips of fabric
and i pace around it
unsettled

the knock at the door
was inevitable
was jarring

i make a cup of tea
i stare
at the hardy
wooden rectangle
i snack
on my fingernails

another knock at the door
then another
louder

i will answer it
and i will see who is there
