I observed one earlier this week and noticed that making their loudest call is a full-body effort. Very interesting!

More birds in the feed please! #addbirder
A white-breasted nuthatch hangs from the side of a tree to make some eye contact with me from across the creek.
White-breasted nuthatches are quite common around me, but I'm always entertained by the way they walk around every surface as if gravity doesn't matter.

Sunrise on the USS Massachusetts in Fall River, MA. I had an overnight campout on the battleship with Cub Scouts and it was a lot of fun. We got to explore all three ships at Battleship Cove, learn some history, and send messages in Morse Code.

Astro post! It's been a bit, but here's an image of a favorite subject I captured over the winter: Thor's Helmet Nebula. This object trails Orion in the night sky and is pretty low on my horizon.

A pair of Flabellina sp. (nicknamed "verrillis") in a field of pink hydroids, which they eat. These nudibranchs can get up to several inches long and come in orange, purple, and red shades.
A solitary Flabellina sp. crawling across an algae covered rock to its next meal, perhaps those pink hydroids in the right foreground?
We see Dendronotus frondosus at other sites, but they are typically under an inch long. This one was probably 3-4 inches!
Coryphella verrucosa are quite common around New England, but they are larger and much more abundant at this particular site.
I took my fisheye lens for its first New England splash and the results did not disappoint! Giant nudis in a field of pink hydroids in Portsmouth, New Hampshire!

Moon wobble is so cool and I didn't know about it until I looked at a series of lunar images I took with my telescope and tried to line them up. Obviously, the phenomenon is well-documented, but it was really fun stumbling on it myself.
The timelapse views from a lunar base will be soooooo good.
All thumbs up from the Artemis II crew
Happy crew!
The pictures they have dropped are so so so good. Just unbelievable stuff.
The right side of this image will look familiar to lunar observers, as this is visible from Earth. The left side is the far side and I love it. Orientale is the most prominent giant crater feature visible on the far side.
Is it weird to be obsessed with a crater? Orientale is π

I DON'T WANT TO WORK TODAY. I JUST WANT TO LOOK AT PICTURES OF THE MOON.

Earth rising over the horizon of the moon. You know, a perfectly normal image description.
You've probably already seen this image by now, but I have to join the party sharing it because it is quite simply one of the coolest images I have ever seen.

I paused the Artemis livestream yesterday and picked it back up this morning, so I'm mid-eclipse right now. Listening to the crew gush over the beauty of the moon is a wonderful break from all the nastiness going on down here on Earth.

I would consume the hell out of a podcast series that is just a compilation of the astronauts describing the moon. This is a joy to listen to.
My pleasure and thank you for you kind words! I love showing off the beautiful life under the waves.
I heard that one too and I cannot WAIT to see that photo in particular. This photo drop is going to be pure candy.
I'm really enjoying listening to the astronauts and science team talking about their observations. Really cool stuff and I cannot WAIT to see all the pictures they are taking.
LIVE NOW: No big deal, just some humans checking out the far side of the moon as they fly by. ππ

Due to user error, my strobes weren't firing during my last dive. The test to avoid this sort of issue is simple and easy. I should do it and you should too!

There are now 10 toilets in Space
International Space Station: 4
Crew Dragon Docked at ISS: 1
Soyuz Docked at ISS: 1
Tiangong Space Station: 2
Shenzhou Docked at TSS: 1
Artemis II on way around Moon: 1
This will be the first time a toilet has left low earth orbit!
Went to Peirce Island in Portsmouth, NH for the nudibranch bonanza and it was π₯π₯
I opted to make it challenging by forgetting my flash trigger, so I had to shoot with video lights instead of strobes (possible, but I NEVER do it on purpose) π£
Pictures to follow!
I am now 4 dives into my fisheye lens journey, so I wrote down some things I've learned. If you had anything to add, definitely drop a comment below - I'm anxious to improve my skills!

Blue chromis with a gray isopod attached to its cheek.
This is a blue chromis with an isopod attached. These critters will munch on whatever the fish eats and are a drag on the animal due to their large relative size.

A bright yellow roughhead blenny peeks out of a coral head surrounded by algae framed with a dark background.
I found this roughhead blenny sticking out of a coral head in the Bahamas. I really liked the vibrant yellow color.

I've seen them twice from my car while driving around (wtf?!) but I'm on the hunt to get a photo of one. They are super cool.
