Our data are consistent with constant binding rate, lifetime and extrusion speed of cohesin across different regions. This argues for a model where TAD dynamics is mainly governed by CTCF sites and opens the door to predictive simulations of DNA folding across the entire human genome. (3/4)
Tracking the 3D motion of loop anchors in multiple genomic regions, we confirm that TADs are highly dynamic. Our analyses indicate that TADs constantly fold into multiple extruding loops that bring anchors briefly together ~1x per hour, effectively shrinking their genomic distance by ~0.1 kb/s.(2/4)
Recently out: “Uniform dynamics of cohesin-mediated loop extrusion in living human cells”. In this study led by brilliant former PhD student Thomas Sabaté we use live cell microscopy and polymer simulations to characterize how DNA loops and TADs form in human cells by cohesin-driven extrusion. Europe has a chance to shape a safer and more values-aligned future for AI innovation, and needs to. This was my main message at the AI in Science Summit in Copenhagen today.
I also presented Scientist AI, LawZero's approach to create technical guardrails and help accelerate scientific discovery.
Two group leader positions available in the broader areas of RNA science, RNA technologies, and RNA medicine. Attractive packages and a great environment. Come and join us at Helmholtz RNA Würzburg, Bavaria.
** Now seeking postdocs **
Join our interdisciplinary and transnational team in Würzburg (Germany) or Paris (France) to drive projects in translational biology and antibiotic drug discovery.
Backgrounds in computational biology, AI, physics, or microbiology are all welcome. Please spread the word.
great collaboration with the team of Arnaud Fontanet and Laurent Coudeville, spearheaded by Gaston Bizel-Bizellot, Simon Galmiche and Benoît Lelandais, with help from Tiffany Charmet and enabled by a grant from Sanofi.

We took advantage of an online survey conducted during the Covid-19 crisis (ComCor), which yielded a data set of millions of words, with ground-truth labels for each individual. We propose that like-minded methods may speed up our understanding of future pandemics and public health responses.

Finally out, our paper on natural language processing for epidemiology:
www.nature.com/articles/s41...
We show how large language models can help determine circumstances of pathogen transmission by extracting epidemiologically relevant information from free text.

A graphic for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), showing a historical portrait of Marie Skłodowska-Curie overlaid with an image of four young researchers walking down a hallway. The European Commission logo is in the top left. Text reads: "Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – €404.3 million to support postdoctoral researchers”
Choose Science. Choose Europe.
A new Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025 call is now open.
With a budget of €404.3 million, it will support around 1,650 researchers from Europe and beyond.
Apply by 10 September → europa.eu/!fBTMgF
First preprint from my PhD is now online! We show that deep learning can recognise modes of action of antibiotics directly from brightfield images of bacteria. 🦠
Please spread the word or apply with a motivation letter, CV and the contact details of three references.
You can also approach us in person at the “AI in Drug Discovery and Biomedicine” in Barcelona until tomorrow.
We are now looking for postdocs or PhD students with expertise in :
- metabolomics (Boneca team)
- chemical biology and medicinal chemistry (Brönstrup team)
- computational biology, AI, physics or related fields (Zimmer team).
AI4AMR is a collaboration between the labs of Ivo Boneca (microbiology, Institut Pasteur, Paris), Mark Brönstrup (chemistry, Helmholtz Center for Infection Research, Braunschweig) & Christophe Zimmer (computational biology, Univ. of Würzburg and Institut Pasteur).
Building an AI pipeline to accelerate antibiotic drug discovery
(before the Sagrada Familia is completed)
Today is the official start of our ERC Synergy project (AI4AMR) on building an AI-based pipeline to help find new antibiotics against drug-resistant bacteria.
🌟 Join Institut Pasteur as a Junior Research Group Leader 🌟
Explore host-microbe interactions in key areas like vaccinology, infectious diseases, neuro-immunology, and maternal health.

The Institut Pasteur has decided to leave X (formerly Twitter) to join BlueSky! 🦋
The Institut Pasteur made this decision due to several serious issues observed on the X platform since its acquisition. Join us here to continue advocating for science. www.pasteur.fr/en/home/pres...
Mode of action of the new microscopy method LLS-TDI-DNA-PAINT. On the top right, the RTX antibody was visualised on a Raij-B cell: it is easy to see how it links the CD20 molecules in the membrane. Bottom right: the hedgehog-shaped appearance of a living Raji B cell after the antibody has bound. The surface protein CD45, which is homogeneously distributed on the cell surface, is also labelled in green. (Image: Arindam Ghosh / University of Würzburg)
Delighted to launch our activities on Bluesky with this great news: Our researchers @sauer-lab.bsky.social show in @science.org, how therapeutic #antibodies interact with B cells – thanks to an innovative method of super-resolution microscopy. Congratulations!
