We need to move beyond the discussion about security guarantees to Ukraine. For their own security, European NATO members should pursue a real alliance. In this video, I explain why Ukraine is so important for Europe's ability to deter Russian aggression.

Drivers are trained at driving at full speeds through the Swedish archipelagoes, even with radar only. Training is performed by covering the windows.
Devised as a means of fire support and transport of coastal rangers, eventually broadened use.
Out on Castle Ring hillfort near Callow, Shropshire and following minor footpaths around here in very changeable weather conditions today. The hillfort looks like it has been heavily damaged by land improvement for grazing in the past with much reduced ramparts, interior and a flattened gateway.

An image showing the Newhaven cliffs in the background, with sailing ships and barges in the middle, and a part of a broken up groyne in the foreground.
Image of the sweep of Seaford Bay, showing Newhaven in the background with a windmill on the far hill, a facory with smoke, people walking along the beach, and rows of wooden groynes in an arc. A woman walks with her child and a basket towards Seaford (or Tidemills?)
Close up of the woman and child, also a man sitting on one of the groynes and another family of three -- a man, woman and child. In the background are the buildings of Newhaven, with one having a smoking stack. A sailing ship is moving through Mill Creek, having entered through Newhaven Harbour at the River Ouse.
Trying to find out more about an image of a painting we hold at Newhaven Museum. It's of Seaford Bay, between Newhaven and Seaford. These are a few closeups. #SussexCoast Anyone have any clues as to painter or date?
Painting of the tramp steamer Ship ‘SS Venture’ in about 1920 by David Young (called "Tramp Steamer". It shows a small cargo ship with a black hull and white superstructure steaming in calm water.
With @revdrjohn.bsky.social coming to the rescue of the Naval History feed, there's no marginal cost for me leaving the Civil Maritime History and Maritime History (both #MaritimeHistory), Pirate History ( #PirateHistory ) and Coastal History ( #CoastalHistory ) feeds up. (1/3)

#OTD in 1970, the "Doomsday Ship" USS Northampton (CLC-1) was decommissioned. Laid down as a heavy cruiser in 1944, the Northampton was converted into a command ship that would serve as the "Floating White House" to direct a retaliatory strike in the event of a nuclear attack.

Who to write to? Am looking for pictures and/or plans of Austrian-Hungary subs U20 - U23 (WWl). Can anybody recommend an archive or museum, who might have such?
The stupidity is so thick, it's hard to comprehend:
"The U.S. president […] went on to call NATO a "paper tiger" and said Russian President Vladimir Putin shares that opinion."
Hvis USA tillader at Iran begynder at opkræve told på skibe, der sejler igennem Hormuz, kan vi så genindføre Øeesundstolden? Skulle spørge fra Nikolaj Wammen...
The European Union is strengthening its strategic autonomy at a time when geopolitics, hybrid threats and actual war are accelerating insecurity at sea. The situation calls for a review of the EU’s role as a maritime security provider. Read policy brief 👇
According to the U.S. 2026 Annual Threat Assessment report, the Kola Peninsula hosts “about two-thirds of Russia’s second-strike nuclear capabilities”. #NorthernFleet #SSBN #NuclearWeapons #Submarines #Gadzhyievo #Severomorsk #BarentsSea
Historical analogies are dangerous, but the way the Iran war has developed reminds me of the final stages of World War II in the Pacific and poor U.S. understanding of Imperial Japan’s calculus for a negotiated peace. 1/n
