My Trillium Safari finally hit pay dirt. It was an odd year for finding my usual woodland flowers. For me, it is a spring ritual, and it doesn't feel like spring without finding them hidden in the woods. #bloomscrolling #trilliums #flowers #spring #optoutside #PNW

Clouds blanket over the shoreline with some light and color peeking through. The water is calm reflecting the sky and landscape.

Sadly many people think it closed when it moved. I talk to people who loved it in Pioneer Square and when I tell them they moved the look at me totally astonished. #Seattle #Books #bookstore #history

The scene opens in that quiet, suspended moment just before full daylight takes hold at Bowman Lake.

Across the middle distance, a dark, continuous ridge of conifer forest forms a clean horizon line—dense, unbroken, and still in shadow. To the left, a sharply defined mountain peak rises like a triangular silhouette, its edges softened slightly by the early light filtering through layered clouds.

Above it all, the sky carries the real drama. Thick, textured cloud banks stretch overhead, painted in gradients of cool gray and lavender. Beneath them, a vivid band of sunrise burns along the horizon—deep orange and molten gold—spreading outward in irregular streaks where the light finds gaps in the cloud cover.

That same band of fire reflects across the surface of the lake below, but softened—stretched into rippling, horizontal brushstrokes of orange and pale peach. The water is otherwise dark and glassy, holding the sky like a muted mirror. Near the foreground, the shoreline curves in with a narrow strip of earth, grounding the composition and emphasizing the stillness of the water.

Nothing moves. No wind disturbs the lake. The trees remain black silhouettes. The light is the only active element—quietly advancing, lifting the landscape from shadow into color.

It is a restrained sunrise—less explosion, more slow ignition—where the day arrives not all at once, but in measured, glowing increments.🙏

The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate for women in the world.

This #WomensHistoryMonth, we're thinking of all the women locked behind bars, away from their families. They can't get lost in the fight to end mass incarceration.

Everything seems awful and chaotic and powerless, so I am left to do what I can only do: share some beauty with the world. I have no wise words or platitudes, but I do have a camera and empathy. A shot from my first global geomagnetic storm (2024) 💛
