That's why I love test corrections. No prep and with some requirements around convincing that the point was learned, can be a solid experience for students.

I'm back into blogging! I'd love some feedback around this first foray back, particularly if you're using Illustrative Mathematicsπ

Following!
When teaching it initially I go long winded "the value of the function f at an input of x", then "f at an input of x", then oddly "f of x".
Teachers are great.
Had an awesome PD day today. Every teacher there was simply a generous kind-hearted person dedicating a career to encouraging and supporting young people in exploring their interests, doing their best, and leading happy lives.
I am #hiring a Middle School Instructional Specialist in #Nashville to work with our 5th through 8th grade students and their teachers at University School of Nashville starting in August '26.

Eleanor Duckworth's reminder: The more intensely interested a teacher is in a studentβs thinking, the more interested the student becomes in his or her own thinking.
Corollary: The more a teacher just wants to see right answers, the less interested students become in their (or any) thinking.
Maybe a "can you give a counterexample?" Style gallery walk. Groups visit other groups and create a word problem counterexample to a match.
Was there any follow up? I have so many questions about the student thinking!
"Because of the abstract nature of mathematics, people have access to mathematical ideas only through the representations of those ideas" from Adding It Up.

Would you consider that to be wrong?
What makes them backwards?
Maybe compare with a conventional number line and lean into the idea of convention in math. What is it? What are its benefits? How is this mathematical thinking 100% correct and yet might get marked wrong?
How do you manage supplies in the classroom?
Hereβs my best school supply organizing hacks!

Exciting for you and your students! Would love to hear more about the book and connections!
Students sometimes struggled to organize their counting when we did an introduction. If we were organizing 4 objects, they might list ABCD, then ADCB, then DBCA, etc. so it became tough to find all possibilities. With Dominos this structure becomes more tangible and visible
That was their doing. It has me thinking a lot about the way I used to teach combinatorics.
A set of Dominos organized in a triangle
Gave my kid a set of Dominos. We've never used them so not a lot of background knowledge. I put one in my pocket and handed them the container. "Which one is in my pocket?" #IteachMath
Prime Climb board game
Long overdue, but bought Prime Climb! Need to hone my strategy and found that with 2 players having 4 pieces makes for a more intriguing game. #ITeachMath

Appreciate this thread! Would love to know about how the Math Circles were facilitated! Maybe we can reflect on this together at some point?!
Anyone else still having fun with these? Always pumped for the elusive 100!!!

Congratulations! Best of luck on the next adventure!
Fun size. There used to be percentages on the website ... I'm sure I've got them around somewhere, but blue was at least 20% if memory serves
Solid! Thanks for sharing!
I'm curious how you arrived at 1/10^5. Can you share your thinking?!
12 blue, 1 green, 1 orange and 1 brown m&m
What are the chances?!?
No. Seriously. What are the chances?
