The Imperial 'Woke' Museum didn't want to display my war medal collection - at least there's still one place that values duty, bravery and sacrifice - Lord Ashcroft

In other news, billionaire, Tory Peer, and militaria enthuiast Lord Ashcroft throws toys out of his pram after an agreed fifteen year loan to a museum comes to its intended conclusion.

His private collection will now be housed in a different national museum.

Fini/...accounts.

Another excellent entry in Mike's RAN series and a must read for those interested in Naval history and Australian military history.

Looking forward to making time to check out this series, based on the harrowing book, that nearly snuck up on me! Make sure we share it around! #wehaveways @ernestmalley.bsky.social @almurray.bsky.social @karljames1945.bsky.social #histbookchat #thenarrowroadtothedeepnorth

Hello #HistBookChat gang.

I was very fortunate last week to have a short holiday in Hay on Wye.

As well as being just a really lovely place to visit it is, of course, secondhand book utopia!

The series is much more likely to show an incident on 27 November when 5 NZ Bde was attacked at Menastir by forces from the Bardia fortress, and in which the Bde notes one enemy I tank was lost to a 2-pdr.

Successful supply runs for the Axis – November 1941 Background I think it was Kriebel, Ia (operations staff officer) of 15. Panzerdivision, or maybe von Mellenthin, Ia (intelligence staff officer) of Panzerarmee Afrika who claimed that from the dest…

#OTD in 1941, in a footnote to the #desertwar's #navalhistory, the modern and fast merchant Sebastiano Venier (ex-Dutch Jason) called at Bardia, carrying 14 M13/40 tanks, and 1,968 tons of supplies.

She was to carry over 2,000 POWs to Italy on the return run.

Transcription: "The power, the grace, the sheer raw majesty of a leaping wombat."

Image Description: The image depicts a wombat mid-leap, gracefully jumping over a small stream or narrow body of water. The wombat appears robust and furry, with its legs tucked in slightly as it soars through the air. The background consists of grassy, yellow-brown terrain typical of the Australian bushland, with a slight indentation marking the water channel. The overall composition humorously captures the unexpectedly majestic moment of this usually ground-dwelling marsupial in action.

Re-reading this at the moment (French Indochina is my thing). It occurs to me (not for the first time) how, despite his undoubted greatness, FDR was quite naive when it came to both his pronouncements on colonialism with all men being born equal and also in his dealings with Stalin.

Remarkably still in use with Australia at the outbreak of the Second World War! Maybe when complete we’ll do some videos about how it was loaded and equipped by them. Likely the CMF @ernestmalley.bsky.social? The crowdfunding page is still running but making slow progress.

Mistake to cancel it...mistake to cancel Lateline...mistake to cancel Foreign Correspondent....mistake to cancel state based 7:30 Report....I could keep running this line back to Couchman to be honest.
