Very nice! Bumping to the #histbookchat feed for others to admire 😊
#histbookchat. This is @lmbd1418.bsky.social debut book and she has knocked it out the park. A great account of an action that deserves to be better known.
What a win! Escape from a hearing in time to raid the Eagle Bookshop in Bedford and picked this bargain for £12! Huzzah! Been hunting this years at a reasonable price. 🥳 📚 #histbookchat

#histbookchat. Emphatically not my period. Mind you a biography of Luther that didn’t make my head hurt would not be unwelcome.
Another month, another addition to the ever-growing pile of books that claim to “reveal the real Tommy Atkins.” This one dates from 1911. #HistBookChat #TommyAtkins
No more books about military campaigns and model kits of WW2 air land and sea weapon systems, I've had enough of those.
Starting today I'll paint dwarf and elves figurines and read only Terry Pratchett again.

Grabbed this in a London charity shop. No idea what it covers beyond the title. I’m interested in the ideas of parole and captivity. Also this war goes on, with short breaks, for 20 years which is a long time to have to deal with prisoners of war. 🇫🇷 🇬🇧 📚 #histbookchat
Great to see, and bumping to the #histbookchat feed 😊
#histbookchat. This arrived while I was away. I know the highlights so to speak, keen to have the blanks filled in. This was on the wish list and at a special price. And @universitypress.cambridge.org stop, REPEAT, stop using DPD, but for my neighbour this would have been ruined in the rain.
Giving my hand a break from signing copies of my new book to post a couple of #mapmonday photos. Here we have two Red Cross maps showing POW camps in occupied Europe and Italy. #TheUndefeated #histbookchat

Late (no shock there!) again with this #HistBookChat offering. The Canadians were vital to the success of the Normandy Campaign and what came later. For those interested in their part of the struggle, this is a good place to start.
We're thrilled to announce that Trafalgar by Donald Macintyre is published today. Don't miss this gripping account of one of history’s most famous naval battles. Get it here: getbook.at/Trafalgar

Been meaning to buy Dempsey’s other book on Albuera for awhile - the definitive book on the battle (or so I’m told!). 🇬🇧 🇫🇷 🇪🇸 📚 #histbookchat
Just completed this work of vital Holocaust scholarship about the Ringelblum Archives in the Warsaw Ghetto. Highly recommended. 5 stars.

Just finished A Nasty Little War. Slightly disappointing, even disjointed as it feels journalistic. Despite the subtitle, little room is given to why the Allies fought so the focus is on the individuals and their anecdotes, not the strategic or tactical #histbookchat

An engrossing overview of Churchill's at times stormy relationships in both political and military fields with Australia, from Colonial Secretary in 1907 to his final term as Prime Minister in the 1950s. The author, son of a Gallipoli veteran, provides an even handed insightful account #Histbookchat
As a change of pace I bought this on the Zulu War this week. Four reporters riding along with various columns into Zululand… #histbookchat 📚

All That Remains by Sue Black is a fascinating and surprisingly heartfelt look at the work of forensic anthropology. She balances real case experiences with personal reflections, making the science feel accessible and deeply human.

Making a later contribution to #PhotoFriday - George McGovern was a pretty interesting figuring - looking forward to learning more about his WW2/SWW service and the unit he served with.
This book was also at the center of the Stephen Ambrose plagiarism issue.
