This drake Lesser Scaup was at nearby College Lake and a first for Buckinghamshire. It showed well all day and kept everyone happy as it has been a long wait for one.

My first Temminck’s Stint at Tring Reservoirs yesterday after nearly 50 years of birding there even though the access retrictions because of the works hampered viewing. It gave acceptable views through the scope.

Male and female Norfolk Hawker dragonflies were perched at the College Lake pools (Bucks) this morning. Too far for my iphone unfortunately.

8 Red-crested Pochards on Marsworth Reservoir, Tring today including 4 drakes. I saw the Common Scoter on Marsworth briefly but it seems to be elusive.

A very confiding Lapland Bunting was still at Staines Reservoir yesterday. It always returned to the same patch of path when disturbed. Well worth a visit as they can be difficult even on the east coast.

I joined a vismig this morning on Steps Hill, Ivinghoe and managed to see 3 Hawfinch, with 2 more probables. One bird right over me calling. A rare treat. There were more seen before I arrived. An enjoyable time in good weather but migration was thin.

Birds were a bit thin at Wilstone Reservoir yesterday but a Great White Egret was still there and 2 Bar-headed Geese were trying to impress.

The Siberian Lesser Whitethroat in Tynemouth Colin Bradshaw and Martin Collinson discuss the appearance and DNA of the wintering Lesser Whitethroat in Tynemouth.

Good looking bird. It looks so much warmer than the rather cold looking blythi we get up here in autumn. Our birds look more akin to this one written up on BirdGuides www.birdguides.com/articles/the.... 🤞🏼 with the 🧬 !

Whilst looking for waders at Grovebury Lake, Leighton Buzzard this morning a Ring-necked Parakeet flew through the scope view and was chased by the local gulls. Only my second one in Bedfordshire and first for the year.
