Yellow-browed Warbler, Black Redstart (inside Abbey), Peregrine and Kingfisher in St Albans this morning. Time for SSSI status? #ukbirding #hertsbirding
10 Golden Plover feeding near Harpenden this afternoon - regular nearby but the first I’ve recorded on my patch since spring 2019. #ukbirding #hertsbirding
Good news - new bird for garden list! And showing really well! Less good news - Ring-necked Parakeet…… #hertsbirding
#ukbirding #hertsbirding
This year 50 on patch (=walks from Harpenden home) before noon on 4/1. Record total was last year (94) so over halfway there! Mind you last year I found Turtle Dove, Black Redstart, Corn Bunting & Oystercatcher so this won’t be easy. Time somebody built a reservoir nearby.

Waxwing on cover of Herts Bird Report
As the nights draw in and the snow begins to fall that can only mean one thing…. Yes the Bird Report is on its way! Here hot off the press is our latest offering which will be mailed out to members next week. Thanks to @andy6day.bsky.social for the great photo. #hertsbirding #ukbirding
On this day in 2017, a Snow Bunting at Wilstone Reservoir #hertsbirding
On this day in 2023, a Great Northern Diver at Stanstead Innings #hertsbirding
Today’s excitement (and new for the 2024 “walk” list): 3 Grey Partridges. Typically one record a year locally, ideally not as late as mid-November. #hertsbirding #ukbirding
Stonechat - at third site near Harpenden in ten days and almost certainly all different birds. How many do you need to collect to swap for a YBW? #ukbirding #hertsbirding
Did the shortened version today (“only” 16k steps) and got wet rather than drenched. Nice male Stonechat, Pochard, 6 Teal and Green Woodpecker. A good day by KG pit standards. #ukbirding #hertsbirding
Good news - mixed goose flock at East Hyde! Less good news: 480 Canadas so far (way higher than previous max), 3 Greylag and 3 Egyptian. Oh well. #ukbirding #hertsbirding
