Plenty of variety at #middletonlakes this morning with the first Common Whitethroat of the year and my first 2 Willow Warblers. Best of the rest was 2 White Wagtails Dunlin 6 Blackwits 20 Avocets 2 RP 8 LRP 3 Bittern Common Sandpiper. Redshank too mobile to count - poss 7 #staffsbirdnews #ukbirding

First visit of the year to Middleton Lakes racked up 66 species. Star was the Lesser Spotted Woodpceker showing from the car park from 7:45am. Also Marsh Harrier, 3 Treecreeper, 2 Redshank, 4 Oystercatcher, Little Ringed Plover, 2 GW Egret, 6 Little Egret, booming Bittern

The county border is marked on OS maps Paul but it is wriggly! On the wetlands of Middleton Lakes it wriggles through Fisher's Mill pool and crosses the river just south of the river bridge across the Tame. The woodland and south of Fisher's Mill are Warks.

Yes. They've been in the same area all week I think. I had them there on Monday. Towards the north end near the hedge bordering the old track.
