What an idiot . Of course it's relevant #NZPOL

Luxon doesn’t answer media questions. There you have it right there. He’s hopeless… & yet they’ve swung in behind him… 🤔. Vote them OUT #nzpol
Interest rates rise when the economy is shit, Interest rates rise when the economy is over cooked.
Economists are the worst possibly people to run economies.
Gerry Brownlee could have been summoned in near the end to break a stalemate leadership vote
Luxon has changed his wording from "full support of Caucus" to "support of Caucus" #NZPOL
Because, obviously it wasn’t
Remember when RogerDouglas, Richard Prebble, Ruth Richardson, Max Bradford, et al, promised us cheaper power through competition?
How's that working out for us?

For a government that keeps telling councils to "stick to the basics" they sure do love pushing new and additional costs on local government for things that should be centrally funded.
"[...] government cuts since the 2023 election has led to the loss of about 700 roles and the withdrawal of hundreds of millions of dollars."
we really need to vote out this anti-science, anti-intellectual, small-minded government.

If you deregulate broadcasting and media, the mechanisms to hold disinfo campaigns accountable reduce pretty significantly, which is of course the intent behind this move aye
Absolutely unacceptable in modern day society, especially for a supposed 1st world nation & one of the wealthiest in the world. #nzpol #OneTermGovernment #NZ
“… they will purge the agencies that enforce accountability, they will rewrite the law so that they are no longer breaking it… and if they are clever, they will eliminate any structural protections you had before the majority realizes the extent of the damage.”

The big city is not getting worse as quickly as it was a few months ago, but, errm, it's still getting worse year-on-year. Zero sign of growth here - the recovery never started. [5/n]
Wellington had stabilised, despite losing 1 in 20 public service jobs. Fear not though, the beatings will continue after the budget. How else will Govt cope with billions of extra costs with a wafer thin operating allowance? Cut the lanyards, cut some benefits. What else they gonna do? [Ends]
What is it with rich men with horrible personal misconduct problems supporting the ACT party? (He donated $100k in 2022)

I keep thinking about how happy Hungarians must be tonight
Imagine if we'd had Donald Trump for 16 straight years....
Petrol is up but meth price way down..
Thank the gods we didn’t have a national plan to sort out our water, eh?
'Tough time for the country': Willis reacts to latest NZ fuel stocks update The country remains at Phase 1 of the fuel alert system. NZ Herald headline
Semi-regular reminder that you do not have to repeat talking points verbatim without challenge or critique and you can also query what the plan is when the month’s supply of fuel on the way runs out and you can definitely note that a “tough time” is a flat tyre and what is happening now is a crisis.
A year ago I definitely didn't have "Verity Johnson is AoNZ's most incisive political pundit who holds the Govt to account when no-one else does" on my bingo card.
But there you go.

Првт 51 0421 "The Savertiser "Oice. G.P.O. Box 359, Adelaide 19 August, 1976. Mr. John Murchison, Box 55, ADDISON. TEXAS. U.S.A. 75110 Dear John, I have not written to you for a long while and this letter is not about Santos and Delhi. We have had a sad time here of recent years with the very regrettable Labour-Socialist Federal Government. As a result, we now have a self-inflicted and high degree of inflation and also unemployment. hope that, Labour having been expelled from office, the Liberals under fraser may get us back to a better state before long. Recently, at my instigation, Australia has had a visit from one Antony Fisher of London. A successful businessman, youngish but retired, he is the founder of the Institute of Economic Affairs, London. This has had, after a slow start, a good record of achievement in getting some academics and politicians and therefore people too, to see the error of the socialist-communist way. So much so, that Fisher was recently invited to advise and direct the new Fraser Institute in Vancouver B.C. He is in demand to do so elsewhere in the western world, including a show in Los Angeles and one in New York - quite apart from approaches from Europe. Anyway, I was fortunate enough to get Fisher here (Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney talking to meetings or directors of companies etc.) for a fortnight. I am hopeful that we will be able to proceed along the route he has outlined. I cannot tell you his method quickly. What you may say, what any business itself may say, is put down by many to "vested interest" has a technique of getting acadmics to say and write under their own names what business cannot say for itself. It is now having some good results in the U.K. and in Canada. I have had, over the years, a good bit to do with Chambers of Commerce, of Manufacturers, with politicians - and what they say is regarded sceptically by a public encouraged by leftwing academics. *.../2
- 2 - Fisher's method seems to me to be the best I have come across. Sporadic attempts to defend priyate enterprise, private property, freedom of choice must, of course, be made whenever possible. However, Fisher's method is not so sporadic. It is a continuing process. It provides ideas and books- read by academics, students, journalists and the public. Also the books are reviewed in the press, and go some way to get on to the bookstalls, and into the shops, something vastly different from the socialist nonsense tha has proliferated for years. (The method can be backed up in many ways - by a society etc. etc.) I am going to give Fisher your address. If he gets down your way I hope you will see him. He is not in it just to earn his own living - but to help the cause. I mean the cause of freedom, the maximising of choice, a market economy-as opposed to controls. The continual growth of government control, of denial of the right to have private property, leads to "Big Brother" systems and eventually dictatorship. In my opinion, what I call "the Fisher method" is the most hopeful that I have come across. I am trying to get an "Institute" going here. However, if you can get or help to get the idea going in the U.S.A. that will be excellen If America can keep the flag flying - it should help all the western world. Fisher's ideas as to method should be of real interest and benefit and, incidentally, they should benefit you. Best wishes to you and Lupe, Sincerely, John Bonython.

This is what local political leadership looks like.
The answer lies in longer term solutions, including the building of more public housing and the resourcing of critical support services.
Instead all we're getting is the criminalisation of poverty.
I don't expect much from Peters and Seymour, but to see Simeon and Luxon blatantly politicising the 2nd Covid report is disgraceful.
Dr Ayesha Verrall is right, they are desperate.

Let's not forget.
Written a few months into Covid, this 2020 story details how brilliant New Zealand's response was.
Air NZ stock prices have crashed to a 17-year low. Finance minister Nicola Willis is hinting at a delay to this year's fuel tax hike, reports Andrew Patterson.
I'm all for the media releasing the hounds on Luxon, but it's interesting that it's a bad poll that gets them frothing rather than his govt's support for war and the immense harms the govt has done to health, Te Tiriti, education, the environment and the people suffering as a result.
