Working in recently #deglaciated areas or on #glacier retreat? Let us know your key scientific knowledge gaps in our #BeyondIceFutures survey: www.soscisurvey.de/beyond_icefu... Participants can apply to join our follow-up workshop in Autumn 2026 in the Austrian Alps!๐๏ธโ๏ธ @mtnresearchmri.bsky.social
Please nominate! That geoscientist that you think is so awesome has no chance to win an award/medal if they're not nominated! In Geomorphology we have the Outstanding Early Career Scientist award (www.egu.eu/awards-medal...) and the Bagnold Medal (www.egu.eu/awards-medal...).
๐๏ธ The BeyondIceFutures project has been awarded MRI Synthesis Funding to bring together interdisciplinary expertise on recently #DeglaciatedLandscapes. The project will identify knowledge gaps & develop visions for positive futures beyond ice.

Big congratulations to Master student Philipp Gewalt for getting his excellent MSc thesis published and thanks to all colleagues who supplied us with high resolution UAV data for plot selection.
We identified median grain sizes for coarse (> 2 mm) and fine (โค 2โmm) sediments, sediment chemistry (bulk Fe, Ca) & soil properties (TOC, N concentrations) as most important sediment properties in our study. Have a look below how to efficiently include them into your biogeomorphic research:
Sampling across debris flow, rock glacier, moraine and solifluction slopes in Valais, Switzerland, we found that if biogeomorphic feedbacks can happen depends on both geomorphic activity and sediment properties, with grain size related textural establishment and ecosystem engineering thresholds.
On #mountain slopes, we previously found strong feedbacks between #geomorphic processes, #landforms and #plants. But what about #sediments? Do they matter for #biogeomorphic feedbacks? If yes, which sediment properties should we measure and how? Have a look! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

.. and especially wonderful to meet @dralastaircurry.bsky.social and colleagues from U. Hertfordshire, and colleagues from U. Lausanne in field at #Turtmann #glacier to talk about #moraines, #rockglaciers and thermal #UAV flights!
#GoOrGrow fieldwork successfully completed! Captured high resolution #UAV images, read out #TOMST loggers, found a miniature #solifluction #lobe and camped in beautiful Pipjitรคlli for early morning flights. Thanks @leonduurkoop.bsky.social for great help! #biogeomorphology
Traffic jam on the way to work today.. #fieldwork #GoOrGrow
#ICG2026 abstract submission deadline has been postponed to 13th June 2025, so more than two weeks left to prepare your #biogeomorphology abstracts for our session on interactions between life and landscapes!๐๏ธ๐๏ธ๐๐ฑ๐ชด๐ฆซ๐โ๐ซ๐ชธ๐ฆ
Working on interactions between life and #landscapes? Join us for our #biogeomorphology session at the 11th IAG International Conference on #Geomorphology in beautiful New Zealand! Abstract submission deadline is already soon on 31st May! More info: www.confer.co.nz/icg2026/other/ #ICG2026 #IAG2026
New open access paper on headwall erosion of a deglaciating cirque in the Swiss Alps. In our study we found that headwall erosion is driven by frost weathering and permafrost rather than glacier induced rockfall.
