I didn't notice Lorina on the publishing page; very cute. Quite a list of references. You can feel this book was written by a committed fan.

Ok! I also didn't realize it was a novella; probably why I haven't heard of it before. The novella discussions were fun last year; I'll look forward to it again no matter what's picked.
I really liked this part, seeing how these people and the sun got woven into the mythology of Yonada. Kirk says "History isn't the past, it's the interpretation of the past" and "we all create history in our own image". I'm sure this applies to Earth's history too #TrekBookClub #StarTrekExMachina
It reminded me of how Una outwitted a Klingon captain in one of the SNW books by using their pride and inability to admit weakness against them. I also loved how Sulu says he didn't ask "WWKD", he just did what Sulu would do :) #TrekBookClub #StarTrekExMachina
No; Kirk and crew did what only a starship crew can do, then they have to move on to different worlds. Also, it's not like they abandoned them; there is a Federation presence with Soreth and Lindstrom. This is just one of the many potential challenges mentioned by Vari in the flashback #TrekBookClub
I'd like to nominate Q Are Cordially Uninvited by Rudy Josephs. I'm itching for a Q discussion and that's one I haven't read. But the other nominees are great too and I'll be happy to discuss any :)
Kirk is used to having to demand the impossible from his engineering crew in a crisis situation. This is the second time that he's pushing to rush the ship out at the beginning of a mission, and Scotty is imagining the worst case scenarios again; I don't blame him

I love this blend of characters and settings from the movie era with a novel, where anything is possible in your imagination. It was really neat to picture Spring Rain visiting a mud bath with Uhura, something that would have been hard to portray on screen #TrekBookClub #StarTrekExMachina
This is one of my favorite aspects of this novel. As a Kirk fan, that part of the movie is pretty uncomfortable to watch and does raise some questions in your mind. I liked seeing that questioning explored via the Decker loyalist crew in the novel. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekExMachina
lol sames. The great thing about reading novels though is you can imagine any person you want in his place. I could envision SNW Chapel and Uhura if I want when I read this, so maybe Decker's been recast for the flashbacks too :)
Such a creative idea for an episode; amazing they were able to tell such a story in such a short time. I loved how the mechanics of the creation of Yonada were explored in this novel. The relationship was rushed, but then the novel kind of saves that too. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekExMachina
It is a very diplomatic, real-world solution.
His actions were bold, which will garner polarized opinions. His decisiveness saved many lives; it he had been as under the microscope during the mission, he wouldn't have been as successful. But now he's starting to doubt

Yeah this aspect has really evolved over the years, on a pretty meta in-world level that crosses over into fan speculation.
I liked getting the glimpse into his internal struggle during this supposed transition period. The constant irony of other people's perceptions (even Vulcan's) of suppression vs. absence of emotion is interesting to explore. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekExMachina
I hadn't seen this TOS episode so went and watched it as I was reading. The book does a pretty good job of expository info though, so you could read it without watching. I also went back and watched the Landru episode since it was mentioned so much. That also ties into Caveat Emptor! #TrekBookClub
It is terrible and looks like it was designed in Microsoft Word. At least the Czech version looks like it tried ;)

With the SNW cast about to completely flesh out the TOS roles, you can almost read this book entirely imagining the new versions of the characters. It’s almost impossible to see M’Bengas name now and not picture our SNW actor.
This is the exact one I had in mind! These are just fine with me. It looks like someone put a lot of thought and care into it.
Let’s be honest, McCoy was a liability during this whole part of the story. He just wanted to be closer to Anitra and almost screwed things up several times with his jealously and obsessiveness. Ew. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons
No, just no. Obviously she’s going to attract a lot of attention. McCoy should have stayed in his lane, if only for her sake. She seems too ambitious to even have time for a romantic relationship at this point in her life anyway #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons
I kind of figured that was the case, but it was still a nice reveal. I liked her character more than I thought I would when she was originally introduced #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons
I like the old illustrated covers and would still like to see a day when we have a hand-illustrated painting on covers. I do like some of the newer stuff, like the new TOS novels and the SNW novels have nice designs.
I did appreciate that too. And in that sense, I think the cover did a good job. The story really becomes about McCoy, Anitra (I’ll reserve my comments about those two until it comes up later), and Spock. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons
I thought Anitra’s abilities made more sense than vague Betazoid powers that aren’t consistent in proximity to the subject. It really seems like a curse in disguise of a blessing. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons
This was another weird plot detail for me. Kirk should have been made aware, or the reader should have been made more aware about what was going on. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons
I enjoyed the brazen, intelligent, genuine character of Anitra. This could easily have been annoying, but she was as also charming when she needed to be, and was really focused throughout the whole novel on her mission. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons
It was very ominous and unsettling. The rose bushes were a nice element to the story. It would have been very scary to have been in Amanda’s place #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons
Insects showed up a few times in the story, and I kind of expected there to be more to that. Maybe the insects were an analogy for the demons in the book that swarm, multiply, and overtake people before they realize what’s happening. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons
Silek was a really interesting part of the story. I thought his relationship with Amanda was sweet. Him gifting her a book from Earth reminded me of Spock gifting Chapel with a book right as he’s meeting Kirby for the first time in SNW. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekDemons
