Haven't posted in a while, but wanted to introduce LYRU 8 to the community. He's our first adult male #bobcat with an eobs GPS collar! Looking forward to seeing how he navigates our region. Volume up! #movement #ecology @blackrockforest.bsky.social

Good question: Here's Janey's response: We typically define soil macrofauna as >2mm but no size cutoff. I'm only considering invertebrate soil fauna.
Facilitating this funding program and the research it enables, is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. We look forward to learning from all of our recipients.
Roger Powell and I review my best camera trap videos and try to figure out how the heck fishers can kill a porcupine.

Great video! And yes, that's a pretty high detection rate. Maybe combo of high density of high-protein prey and mating season? Plus, hemlocks are declining so maybe concentrating porcupines? Many questions!

Lost coyote?
Enjoyed our first good #snow tracking session. This #coyote seems to check out our kiosk. Low #animal activity, but scenic.
Congrats to the NYSDOT on their $324k award from the #WildlifeCrossingsPilotProgram and happy to say I had a small part in it! This allows us to develop a toolkit for identifying #roadkill and #connectivity opportunities. Safer roads! I look forward to working with you all!
'Tis the season for #cameratrapping for me. Here's a nice sequence of a #bobcat mother and nearly full-grown kitten. Atypically interested in the lure. #wildlife #ecology
Stumbled across this #Ambystoma maculatum while checking #cameratraps inside #BlackRockForest yesterday. Any #herp folks know why it was out? #fieldwork
Please apply and share! #Funding! We're offering $10000 grants to do #research with #conservation application at #BlackRockForest. Send us your proposals: www.blackrockforest.org/david-redden... Deadline: January 26.
