Well let's see how this strategy of telling "white liberals" to "fuck right off" works out in the local elections

One of my personal conclusions was that divorce remains inequitable. Oh it's LEGALLY equal, but access is not.
I only managed to get divorced because civil legal aid still existed in 2012.
Divorce is cheaper now, but it's not free. It will never be free. So some women will always be trapped.
I had the most BRILLIANT, inspiring day at Northumbria yesterday, presenting at the Broken Bonds conference on histories of divorce. I talked about (failing to) escape domestic violence but there was such a rich variety of topics.

He forgot the central management at the unis with the dubious financial management...
He said: "By shifting the vast majority of university funding into the hands of the aggregate decisions of 17-year-olds, the English system of choice has become an enormous machine for finding out who has the best marketing department, with some world-leading research sprinkled in certain places."
Quite the quote from the John Blake, the former director of fair access at the Office for Students

Good morning, everyone!
Tuesday mood…
This conference we are supporting in Birmingham in June has an amazing mix of 40 panels - a veritable Choose your Own Adventure through modern British studies. It’s also the inaugural event of the Association of Modern British Studies! Great stuff here

So much for the theory. Iran should allow fertiliser to pass through the Strait of Hormuz; America should not blockade urea shipments from Iran. Tragically, neither shows any inclination to do so. High petrol prices make biofuel more attractive to farmers, not less. And rich countries are in a selfish mood. Failure to act thus looks baked in. In the face of an avoidable disaster, that is shameful.
Fair but depressing conclusion from @economist.com - we could avoid some of the worst of the hunger, but we won’t

'At the end of each module, students will engage in a “Socratic dialogue” with their AI tutor about the content to answer questions and reflect on their learning.'
On the one hand, studying Classics is passée, on the other hand, 'Socratic dialogue' is how you market AI tuition models. Hmmm. 3/3
And they do not give degree-awarding powers to federated institutions... 🤯
A UK Parliament petition calling for a referendum on bringing the water industry back into public ownership is nearing 60,000 signatures, reflecting growing public concern over privatisation, accountability, and the management of a basic human necessity.

“We should never do anything that could be more inclusive or progressive because then the mean Republicans will be mean to me.”
If you’re this fucking pathetic and cowardly, don’t be a politician!

We are looking at the Tudor entrance to the Hall from an arched passageway. The sun is directly in front of us and flares slightly on the 1601 oak barge boards which are decorated in grapes and vines. It is quiet and serene.
Sunday!
May today be a day for exploring new places…
…or just sitting on your sofa drinking tea.
Either way have a great one!

Anything you can spare, will go towards challenging this Labour Government and taking the fight to Reform.
And most importantly - to creating the hopeful alternative.

Still looking for an interested survey maker. Makes a better @britishacademy.bsky.social small grant application when the self-employed is named and contributes to the methodology set-up. And has a CV. #MCRHumNetwork
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
