A small springtime flower blooming in the woods in dappled sunlight. Graceful long petals in shades of purple with white and yellow crests on the two lower petals. Wide straight green leaves. Growing in brown leaf litter.

A hundred years ago, the U.S. had a nationwide network of short-line railroads that connected most urban and rural communities. By the 1940s, most of it had been dismantled ... by the barons of the auto and oil industries. π
My nursery isnt quite open yet but I started a small native garden design company, and hopefully to have the nursery official by the end of the calendar year but mostly post flowers/plants and gardening tips/advice
Another bucketlist plantπ
Oh wow the blooms look so large compared to the eastern versions im familiar with
Spring Sedge and Rare Spring Sedge are starting to flower in the polytunnel @nosterfieldnr.bsky.social habitat creation nursery. Already easy to tell apart, with Rare Spring Sedge (C. ericetorum) showing dark purplish- brown flowers, with papery edges to the glumes, and no green at all.
Oh, ive never seen white in the "wild" .. I need some haha
A little black folding table with some plants, notably Packera aurea, and a sign that says "free plants."
Bare root raspberry plants in a black tray with a sign that says "black raspberry," though some of the plants are red raspberries.
Central MD people, anyone want some impulse raspberries (black and/or red) or Packera aurea before it gets cold tonight? π± #nativeplants
I loves themπ₯Ή
They're like mini iris and clump so nicely, and the seed is so easy to collect aswell!
Lyre-leaf sage and 2 different varieties of spiderwort blooming along my neighbors ditch-line this morning- a deep purple and a pale shade that almost matches the hues of the lyre-leaf like the coordinated outfits ! Lol
Though its WAY more likely that its just another colony forming around a runner in a different direction, but its much further and visibly has its own runner, and no real "direction line" of shoots in between ..and there certainly are tons of ants lol plants are just so fkn coolπ₯Ή
Holding off on the spring mow at the #GardenWild Stewardship client's house with the Cypridium Orchids- you can really see how far they can creep by runner! This little offshoot is ~15-20ft away from the largest/main (assuming "1st") orchid. I also believe therr may* be some reproduction via seed...
Cinnamon fern, Osmundastrum cinnamomeum. This is planting that has been growing for a decade or more. It is an isolated planting so the 'fairy ring' is more obvious.
Royal fern, Osmunda spectibilis. This is planting that has been growing for a decade or more. This is an isolated planting. It is an isolated planting. The fairy ring is not complete. The center plant is still present.
Interrupted fern, Osmunda claytoniana Another isolated planting. The fairy ring is even less established. The center plant is present.
Ferns, given time, seem to create 'fairy rings'. The scientific term is radial growth. It is a clonal ring, genet ring.
Cinnamon fern (L), Royal fern (C), Interrupted fern (R)

Seen "black headed" vultures, or even how many diff we have in our area .. and am rambling now, so . Yea lol
Enough for the significant chunk of healthy ecosystem function they bring /enable, and are uniquely hurt by development both in removal of large prey that ceaate food- and in making their only core source in the middle of highways feom roadkill- cant imagine that stress π but not sure if ive ever
I feel like wings could've had aome mottling of browns but im both color blind and its a bit too far without my glasses , was really.hopin the camera was gonna add aomething other than just a blur butπ€·ββοΈπ

Mt subconscious was picking up something, despite REALLY not being a birder, that said "rare/uncommon" sighting. Sometimes my submind/intuition nails it, other times its way off haha but is what made me take my phone out. Black vulture would make sense with the size. They really were massive
Guess who's next crisis, also happens to be the last one. Apparently the alternator on the "new" vehicle decided, today was the day it couldn't handle anything else. Same Lil guy, same π« π but ..tows on the way.. as is a ride back to civilization 64.9miles away ... oy vey
