A heavily glaciated and snow-covered mountain peak rises against a deep blue sky in the Eastern Alaska Range, Alaska. A long steep ridge leads from left to right up to a sharp triangular summit at upper right. Bergschrunds — crevasses where glacier ice separates from the rock headwall — are visible along the upper ridge, along with prominent snow cornices. A hanging glacier is visible on the right flank of the peak. The smooth snow-covered surface of a glacier tributary fills the foreground.

A vivid rainbow arcs from the upper left of the frame down to the tundra surface of the Donnelly Flats in interior Alaska, just north of the Alaska Range. A small dark lake reflects the sky in the middle foreground, surrounded by boreal spruce forest and green tundra vegetation. The tundra beyond the lake is lit in warm yellow-green light where the sun breaks through the overcast sky. The silhouette of the Alaska Range is faintly visible along the horizon.

Brilliant green aurora borealis fills the night sky over Fairbanks, Alaska in mid-April, photographed looking upward through bare birch and spruce trees. Multiple bright green ribbons and curtains swirl and arc across the frame in different directions, with a diffuse green glow filling the sky between them. A satellite trail is visible as a short streak in the upper right portion of the sky. The silhouetted bare branches of birch trees frame the upper left, with spruce trees along the bottom edge. Stars are visible in the darker gaps between the aurora curtains.

Two red fox kits play-fighting beneath a spruce tree near Fairbanks, Alaska. One kit stands over the other with its mouth wide open in a playful snarl, mid-pounce. The second kit lies on its back on a bed of pine needles and leaf litter. Both kits display the dark brownish-gray juvenile fur typical of young red foxes before their adult coloring develops. Bare branches and spruce needles frame the scene, with patches of snow visible in the background.

A low-angle upward view into the seracs of the Gabriel Icefall on the Gulkana Glacier, Eastern Alaska Range, Alaska. Towering walls of glacial ice rise on both sides of the frame, the surfaces streaked with sediment and smoothed by meltwater. Blue glacial ice is visible in the deeper portions of the serac walls at upper left. A thin trickle of meltwater falls from within the icefall down through dark sediment-covered ice and rock in the foreground. A pale blue sky with light clouds is visible at the top of the frame.

A wide-angle landscape photograph of rolling tundra hills in the White Mountain National Recreation Area, Alaska, during autumn. The foreground and middle ground show undulating ridges covered in deep orange and reddish-brown vegetation. Dramatic shadows from the low evening sun create high contrast across the hills. In the background, layers of blue and purple mountains fade into a pale, hazy sky with thin horizontal clouds near the horizon. The lighting is warm and golden, characteristic of a late afternoon or sunset.

A large angular boulder sits perched on a small pedestal of glacier ice on the surface of the Black Rapids Glacier, Eastern Alaska Range, Alaska. The surrounding glacier surface is covered in rocky debris and sediment. A second smaller boulder on a similar ice pedestal is visible to the right. Snow-patched mountain ridges and partially cloud-shrouded peaks of the Alaska Range rise dramatically in the background, with a small hanging glacier visible on the mountainside at center. Overcast summer sky.

A bright green aurora ribbon arcs across a deep blue night sky over Fairbanks, Alaska in early January. A brilliant full or nearly full moon shines at center frame where the aurora ribbon crosses near it, with a starburst coma aberration pattern radiating from the moon. A flare ghost from the moon is visible to the lower left. Hoarfrost covered birch and spruce trees fill the lower third of the frame, their heavily laden branches glowing white in the moonlight. Stars are visible in the darker portions of the sky.

An extreme close-up portrait of a juvenile peregrine falcon staring directly at the camera against a pale gray-blue sky background. The bird's large dark eyes, blue-gray hooked beak, and distinctive dark malar stripe are clearly visible. The breast and body feathers show the streaked brown and buff plumage characteristic of a juvenile peregrine rather than the slate gray and white of an adult. The feather detail across the chest and wings is sharp and highly detailed. Angel Rocks, Chena River State Recreation Area, Fairbanks, Alaska.

An aurora corona photographed directly overhead in Fairbanks, Alaska, in January. Bright green aurora curtains radiate outward from a brilliant white central point at the magnetic zenith, creating a starburst or tunnel-like perspective effect. The aurora fills most of the frame, with darker gaps between the curtains revealing a star-filled night sky. A bare tree branch is silhouetted in the lower left corner.

A close-up view of the Gabriel Icefall on the Gulkana Glacier in the Eastern Alaska Range, Alaska. The frame is filled entirely with heavily crevassed and fractured glacier ice, showing roughly 400 vertical feet of the icefall. The ice displays complex textures including folded horizontal striations representing annual accumulation layers compressed and deformed during glacial flow, deep crevasses, and towering seracs in the upper portion of the frame. Blue glacial ice is visible in the deeper crevasse walls at lower left. Rocky moraine debris is visible at the very bottom right of the frame.

A single jagged iceberg floats in the dark green choppy waters of Columbia Bay near the Columbia Glacier in Prince William Sound, Alaska. The iceberg is white with blue glacial ice visible in its crevices and faces, and shows signs of recent calving with irregular broken surfaces. A thick gray fog obscures the horizon and background, leaving the iceberg as the sole focal point against the dark water. The overall palette is muted gray, dark teal, and pale blue-white.
