A couple of drops...that's all the rain we got this week. Luckily, the native prairie plants are pretty drought tolerant. Which natives can you spot in this photograph?

Will we be seeing you this weekend for our second volunteer event of the year? We are aiming to plant 3000 willows in two days - a new Guinness World Record! (not really, but maybe...has anyone kept any records?)
Help us help nature, and get your hands dirty!

What do fences do for the prairie?
These fences block native wildlife from moving across the landscape, and they become major tumbleweed traps - choking out any other vegetation and turn the fence into an even more impassable barrier.
What could be a better alternative to the old-fashioned fence?
Here's a fun idea: join this outdoor event, with music, appetizers and drinks on a warm June (6th) afternoon. We will share stories from the field and share our goals for prairie protection. πΎπ¦¬

Did you know that all prairie dog pups are born around this time of year? Prairie dogs have their babies generally between March and April, after a pregnancy of roughly 26β30 days. The pups are born blind and hairless and will stay in the burrow for 5β6 weeks before emerging.
This photograph was taken last year...we've not had much rain this year. Hoping to see some lush green grass soon π€

If you are currently on the waiting list for another Sunday tour, head over to the website https://www.southernplainsbirdingfestival.org/ and register for these new excursion slots.
How festive...π
On average, we find one mylar balloon a day on our preserves. These balloons do not biodegrade. Prairie wildlife can get disoriented, trapped, entangled, or poisoned by these party items. Great reminder to hold on tight to your balloon and don't let wildlife deal with the trash.
Do you want to learn how to set up a camera trap in such a way that it contributes to science and conservation? Come join our on-site workshop on April 21st! πΈ
