A photo of a male northern flicker (Colaptes auratus), a sleek taupe-colored woodpecker with a gray head and a long dark gray beak, dark eyes, bright red cheek patches, black barring across its back and wings, a large black chevron on its chest, black polka dots all over its belly, a red spot on the back of its head, and bright red-orange tail feathers tipped in black. It is perched on a small wooden board mounted to a black metal bar facing toward the left with its long, thin pink tongue sticking out and a few crumbs of suet visible on its beak. The lighting is bright sunlight from the side in the late afternoon. The background is blurred greenery and pink flowers (camellias).
