7 years ago, I gave my first talk at an R stats conference. At the reception, a man asked me, "Do you use R?" 🙄 My mentor, Dr. Kelly Bodwin, helped me shake off my subsequent feeling that I didn't belong and encouraged my love of statistics.

A bleached Madracis auretenra coral showing completely bleached tissues and some tissue mortality on more sun exposed portions of the coral, and only partial bleaching and no mortality on more shaded areas.

Coral bleaching surveys in Bonaire from 2016-2023 show that last year had the most widespread bleaching and related coral colony mortality. While this is disheartening, focusing on increasing local reef resilience can help buy time to address global climate change. 🪸💪
