Literature one minute, AI data centres the next. Those are just two threads in a much bigger picture. I’m a cybersecurity analyst, and I have a lot of thoughts about what’s being built in our communities without our input. Let’s talk about that and a lot more.
If you are new here and you are just following me, thank you. You also might be a little confused. Like what is she on about? One minute I’m analyzing literature and the next I’m talking a lot about AI Data centres. These two things don’t even scratch the surface of who I am.

There are only so many players in the AI realm and the data centre in #RMSherwood is tied to both Microsoft and OpenAI.US companies here in Canada + we are not privy to who their clients are. But it’s widely reported by multiple international news agencies that OpenAI works with the US Dept of War.

Last night, an unelected interim council approved the largest AI data centre #RMSherwood ,Canada in my community, powered by coal. In 2026. While I was reading about how rooftop solar is “a tiny act of sovereignty,” my government chose 1950s fossil dependency.

I remember when the movie came out and I immediately was a little put off because it was Matt Damon. I’m sorry 😬. But after reading most of the book and watching the movie, he really was a good choice for Matt.

And my son was so interested in me discussing my thoughts about the book that he wanted to watch the movie. and after watching the movie, he wants to read the book now. So it’s a win-win.
I do not normally watch the movie before finishing the book. People, it’s unheard of for me to even think about watching the movie, while I am in the midst of reading the book. I am surprising myself.

Watney’s story is almost defiantly optimistic in that way, survival through competence and humor, not through earning something he lost.
I would argue that Watney is anti-redemption. Part of what makes Watney compelling is that he does not need redemption. He is not wrestling with past failures or moral debts. He is confident in who he is.
I mainly focused on the narrative, except for RTG (radioisotope thermoelectric generator) -I had to look that shit up! 😂
They bend rules, taking enormous risks, and spending vast resources to correct that mistake. Director Teddy Sanders’ arc is partly about an institution trying to live up to its stated values. They better make amends after that type of mistake.
Having said that, I think you could argue for a few redemption adjacent characters or story points. Like NASA and institutional redemption. The organization makes a massive error in leaving Watney behind, and the rest of the novel can be read as NASA redeeming itself.
I don’t think you missed anything. I do not think The Martian is a typical redemption story in the traditional sense. In most redemption narratives, you need/require a protagonist who has fallen from grace, committed a moral failing, or needs to be restored to their sense of goodness.
Just to recap: the man who illegally shared YOUR tax data with ICE & stole our PPI- data thru DOGE is suing to collect $10B because someone shared HIS. Rules for thee, not for me has never been this expensive. GRIFTERS!

And most of it, I was able to visualize his surroundings. I really want to watch the movie now, but not until I have finished the book. I am close.
Also, I feel like I should write those instructions down in case I ever get in that dilemma. (Whispering : I will never get in that dilemma).
I did struggle a little, trying to visualize when he was describing the chemical process/reaction of hydrazine and creating water. But it wasn’t enough for me to lose interest. It was still super interesting.
DOJ demanded voter files from all 50 states.
