What Works For Me! “I’ve had my students write down on multiple sticky notes this year what they would want to hear on tough days. I collected those notes and handed them out when I saw students needed them. The power of their own positive words returning to them made a difference.” —Danielle Sicotte, Teacher

I don't think it's a coincidence that teachers who are warm demanders tend to expect a great deal of themselves, know and take pride in their strengths, and are disciplined and structured about addressing their weaknesses.

Thoughts from #ATMNE25: When looking at school culture, consider, "How are adults talking about kids? How are admin talking about teachers?" Need to be viewing both with a mindset of growth, opportunity, not deficit. @marriamath.bsky.social

Key additional info for those who don't get a lot of trick-or-treaters. If I'm spending $17 for 55 pieces of candy, that bag better not include plain ol' Hershey's Bars.

6th graders used ratio reasoning to consider which doll body parts are the most absurd. (This project was inspired by another 6th grade teacher. Paying it forward for anyone else who might want to try. brimmermay-my.sharepoint.com/:w:/g/person...) #mtbos

Great Q! Often I'll instruct students to finish a handful of problems and then look for a peer to check with. If no one is ready, I tell them to start the next set, then pause when classmates have caught up. Like all things, it takes time and management to develop routines that work for you!

Managing Your Class Without Collective Punishment Even in moments of frustration, teachers can hold disruptive students accountable without punishing the class as a group.

When something goes wrong in class, collective punishment probably isn’t the answer, says educator Matthew Ebert.

But if you head down that path, there’s still a way to come back and build trust with students. Here’s how. 👇

Not enough people are paying attention to the multiple levels at which eliminating the Department of Education works to advance a bad agenda.

As a sociologist, I'm seeing some things are worth your attention as you argue about the role of EdGov in our students' lives: (1/6) 🧵
