I had an exhilarating time on Poet Talk, reading poems about all manner of animals—fat bears, rapturous spiders, zen capybara, crows—and a marvelous Mikko Harvey poem, talking shop and life with Ellen Miller Mack. Her show on WMUA and Apple Podcasts is a gift to poetry, poets, and the community.

Seriously? How breathtakingly wondrous is this.
Little speckled brown frog on a brown floorboard by a dark brown wall.
In case you were wondering, this is what a spring peeper looks like. This fellow came a tapping at my porch door.
I wish this isn't where we are. I wish I wasn't posting this. But I must. We must not be silent.

We need dogs more than ever these days....
Photo of a lichen with a powdery green body growing over soil (soil not visible under lichen). From the green surface grow several dozen thin greenish stalks with tiny pom pom tops. The photo background is blue sky.
A Pin Lichen. Northwest Territories, Canada. The little stalks are about 1cm high. #lichen #fungi #fungifriends
I need to stand here for an hour and breathe. Thank you for the moment.
Good quote! Thanks for pulling that out.
Almost daily, I think to myself where we would be now, what would have happened, what wouldn't have happened, how we would all be feeling, if we had Kamala Harris as President and Tim Walz as VP.
Jeff Bezos has $222 billion.
If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over.
And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.
A super fun interview with beloved broadcaster Bill Newman on Talk The Talk. Some laughter, a light confession or two, where you find out about loosestrife and how sand dollars are animals. A couple poems with heart, a couple with Maddow-like snark.

I too learned my ducks needed a paddling pool, and that they needed to be free even if it meant they'd eventually get nabbed by a fox or coyote. How they loved rainy days when the whole hayfield turned into their element. Is there anything better than the shape of duck feet?
...about the time of crocuses, I started finding duck eggs under shrubs, at the edge of the mowing, under a basket. A baby bunny appeared and disappeared (really it did,) and I thought THIS is the origin of Easter, long, long before story of the tomb and the stone in Jerusalem started to be told.
A drugstore Easter basket on a gray Corian kitchen counter, filled with candies, a chocolate rabbit, three little trinkets, a bottle of pink bubbles on the side, and some yellow calla lilies. Easter. Once upon a time, long time ago, I was a city girl. I moved to the country and bought two ducks, Fiddle and Fern and gave them free range around the yard. Winter came and they were unhappy in the barn, knee-high snow outside. One day, early spring, just about now...about the time of the crocuses, I started finding duck eggs, under shrubs, at the edge of the mowing, under a basket. Snoopy, fishing a woodland stream, with flowers and bees and trees. He's saying "I don't want a city on Mars. I don't want AI in every app. I don't want data centers in Space. I want clean water. I want affordable healthcare. And I want bees to survive.

A gray sky, gray-green pines, leafless birch and swamp maples, a field still brown, not quite awake to April.
Somewhere there are daffodils today. Not here, not yet. I know they are coming. I'm aching for them.

Home, once, a long time ago.
Gosh Jeremy. Your photos haven't appeared in my feed for awhile, but this one leapt off the page and said HOME. I lived on a BC island from when I was 7 to 18 and, far away in years and miles, I ache for it. Thanks for this picture this morning.
Good morning all

Photo of a Cladonia lichen podetium. The podetium consists of a large plate-shaped structure at the base, which is brown with a top coating of green powder and squamules. Three golf tee-like structures are growing vertically from the base…they are greenish with a powdery looking texture. The bowl-like tops are ringed in red.

Boston. A sea of people. Peacefully, forcibly saying no. Saying stop it. Stop all of it, all the wrongs. It's a long list.
Big old tree. Two stuffed animals in their new home in a hole in the trunk, a multi-colored bear and a red fluffy something with a white muzzle.
There's a new It couple in the woods. They've just moved in. I tried to get them to tell me where they came from, but they were too taken with each other to give me the time of day.
If your heart broke for Ilya Malinin at the Olympics, this should heal it completely.

And here's the program!
Blue sky, rays of sun just out of the frame, five buds of a tree magnolia. In the distance, a yellow field, a fence, a horizon of evergreens.
Waiting With patience and hope. There are yellow flowers cocooned in there, reading the length of days. Spring is coming!
