#PicOfTheDay The #WarMemorial in the beautiful village & surroundings of #Buckland #Surrey. Unveiled in 1920 to honour the 7 men of the village who fell in #WW1, it was then added to & re-dedicated in November 1947 as the village lost a further 13 men in #WW2.
109 years ago today tens of thousands of men poured from these tunnels as the battle of #Arras began. Nearly 7000 men would be dead by the end of the day. However as the weeks went on there were huge successes in gains & tactics still used today. Today we remember their sacrifice
#PicOfTheDay Nestled in the centre of #Ghent is #Gent City #Cemetery. It has local burials along side @CWGC plots from both #WW1 & #WW2 where just over 200 men now stand easy. There are also #military plots of #German, #Italian, #French & #Belgium fallen amongst others. A real hidden gem

#PicOfTheDay #Duisans #British @cwgc.bsky.social #Cemetery #PasDeCalais. Started in March 1917 the majority of burials are from the battle #Arras & mid 1918. The entrance has battle damage from #WW2 & the retreat to #Dunkirk. 3294 men now stand easy here including 88 #Germans
And thats the 1st wrap of 2026! A brilliant morning with stops at the Christmas truce area, Essex Farm @cwgc to talk poems & medical routes, #Ypres centre & finishing off full circle at the flying memorial at #StOmer. A fantastic week with a fantastic group! Now we head home!
A final good morning #Arras for this tour! A crisp 4.3 mile stroll around town, skirting the river Scarpe, before breakfast. Weather looking good for our group on their last half day on the #battlefields as we head to #Ypres then onto our final stop before home. #LetsRoll
An amazing final full day with our group of 4, & today was all about the war underground, & remembrance. Stops included the brilliant Wellington Tunnels, #StVaast #German Cemetery #NotreDameDeLorette, the ring of remembrance, & finally the @vimyfoundation tunnel & trench tour.
Good morning #Arras! A fresh and brisk 5 mile River Scarpe / Town walk to wake the mind today, before we take our group to some of the different experiences around the area. Weather looking good, mind refreshed, breakfast time then #LetsRoll!
An amazing day 3 with our group of 4 as today we looked predominantly at the war in the skies of #WW1! Stops amongst others included the #Arras flying memorial, #TheRedBaron crash site, the story of Mond & Martyn, #Thiepval, #Lochnagar, and Lanoe Hawker VC. Roll on tomorrow!
A final good morning #Dunkirk and a nice 4.6 mile walk to blow the cobwebs away before we head south & to the battlefields of #WW1 with our group! Today we will be looking predominantly at the air war and those who fought above the trenches! But first breakfast time! #LetsRoll
A packed but fantastic day 2 with our group of 4 friends. Today we finished the #Dunkirk story with stops amongst others on the canal, the 12th Division memorial, the batteries & of course the final word at the mole. A late low tide set the scene for a visit to the Crested Eagle.
Good morning #Dunkirk! A nice little 4.5 mile stroll to clear the mind before a very busy day with our group looking at the final stages of the retreat of Dunkirk & the little stories that make it even more special! First some breakfast, then #LetsRoll!
A very long but fantastic first day with our group of 4, as we looked at the holding lines of the retreat,& the start of the #Dunkirk corridor beginning to collapse at #StVenant. Then the emotional story of #Wormhoudt Massacre. Time to rest before a very busy day tomorrow! #WW2
And were off! The first tour of 2026 sees a real mix for our group of 4 friends,at their request. 2 days discovering the miracle of #Dunkirk, 2 days of lesser visited #WW1 sites & a day of something completely different! This is set to be a great season start! #LetsRoll!

@cwgc.bsky.social Memorial at #NeuveChapelle #PasDeCalais. The memorial Commemorates all 4653 Indian men who fell on the #WesternFront in WW1. It is located where the Indian Corps fought as a single unit for the first time in a major battle 111 years ago today.
And thats a wrap! Despite mist & fog for most of the day, 14 new @cwgc.bsky.social #Cemeteries visited & catalogued, from #Esquelbecq
to #Faureuil & several inbetween, 11 new #ShotAtDawn headstones visited (we added a couple) & still had time for a banging #burger at #AuBureau in #Arras!

#PicOfTheDay The wonderful #CharlesShay #Indian #Memorial #OmahaBeach #Normandy. Unveiled on June 5th 2021 in honour of Charles who served as a medic throughout #WW2 & the #Korean War,he saved many lives from #DDay, the #BattleOfTheBulge through to his time in a #German #POW camp
#PicOfTheDay The simple but moving #WarMemorial on the side of the @clarksshoes factory in #Street #Somerset #England. It is dedicated to the men of the factory who were lost in #WW1 with a further plaque being added later for 12 men lost in #WW2. #LocalHistory
#PicOfTheDay The beautiful #Luxembourg #American #Cemetery #Hamm. Started on December 29th 1944 as the #BattleOfTheBulge raged, 5074 men now stand easy here, many falling in that battle. It is also the resting place of General George Patton. #WW2
#PicOfTheDay Another seldom visited site, #PontDuHem @cwgc.bsky.social #Military #Cemetery #LaGorgue. Started in July 1915 by medical units, it was then used until April 1918. After the #Armistice #German & #Portuguese graves were removed & #British added. Over 1500 men now stand easy here.
On this, #WorldCancerDay we remember all those lost to this terrible disease, and to all those fighting it, keep fighting. Until then we prey that one day there will be a cure.
