monterey_bay_whale_watch We had an incredibly rare sighting of 15 Goose-beaked (Cuvier's) whales on our 1:30PM trip yesterday! Typically any beaked whale sightings we get for the year do occur in the spring, but this sighting was something special. Typically when encountering Goose-beaked whales, it is a very brief encounter with only a couple individuals, and they are usually quite distant. Yesterday we got extremely lucky to encounter 15 of these mvsterious whales for almost 5 minutes at the surface! It is likelv one of the largest groups of this species ever seen in Monterey Bay, and there was a mix of female subadults and even a few calves! We are also in contact with beaked whale experts about one individual in particular that might even be a different species of beaked whale. You trulv
