Goldhähnchen im Baum, zwischen Zweigen und Blütenständen einer Hainbuche.
Das heutige alternative Thema zum #BirdOfTheDay von @alan678.bsky.social ist
#RareEncounters
Ich habe nur wenige Goldhähnchen fotografieren können. Heute ist mir eines begegnet.
A white Red Dead-nettle seen today was an unusual treat, and also a great example of why capitalisation of species names is a good aid for clarity in writing.

Shelvinsky, a 48-year-old veterinarian, has built the Free Wings rehabilitation center around his house on the outskirts of Lviv. He takes care of approximately 470 birds — some found injured in nature, and others entrusted to Shelvinsky's care by their owners due to the circumstances of war.
Lovely water shrew. Britain’s only venomous mammal. Having fun in the rain.
This #HighKey image fits the alternate #BirdoftheDay theme of #OpenWings. I've posted a few images from this morning of photographing snowy egrets on an overcast foggy day. White birds on white background was a real challenge. #photography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #EastCoastKin #egrets #birds
The photo captures a serene, misty morning scene at a lake. The calm water reflects the light and the dark silhouettes of the trees on the far bank. Ripples are visible across the surface. A number of geese are gathered and swimming in groups on the :A bank of dense fog hangs low over the water and the distant shoreline. The background features a dense line of bare, dark trees. The sky above the trees has soft hues of yellow, orange, and blue.

Scotland hosts some of the rarest dragonfly species in Britain. Now, an assemblage of Bog Pool specialists has been added to the Scottish Biodiversity List. Find out more and why this is important: british-dragonflies.org.uk/importance-o...
Most extinctions today are ‘dark extinctions’….species that vanish before they’re described, monitored, or counted.
No database can record what was never discovered.
Biology is not accounting, and absence of paperwork is not absence of extinction.

Cobalt crust fungus brightening up a dull morning. Coed Lletywalter Llanbedr.

A vibrant blue crust fungus on a dead tree branch. The crust covers most of the branch, but there are gaps showing the bark
Since I saw a picture in a book a couple of years ago, I’ve been looking all over the place for Cobalt Crust. I finally spotted it in a neighbour’s front garden this afternoon!
What an amazing colour 💙
I wonder how many times I’ve walked past it 🍄🟫

Waxcap 24 - Snowy Waxcap (Cuphophyllus virgineus). Our commonest white species. Very variable and multiple named forms but always with strongly decurrent gills and no obvious smell.
Love is with you always.
It is a 🌈 in a dark night, shining bright with colours.
Arise, 🌈, Arise.

Downy woodpecker entangled in plastic artificial decorative Halloween spider webs.
What frightens me most about Halloween cobwebs isn’t how they look…..it’s that they catch the living.
Enjoy the season, but keep the plastic webs indoors; or skip them altogether.
A brown beetle stands on sand. There are white curly lines on the elytra scribbled in from the lateral margins. When you look closely at the brown parts of the elytra, thorax and head you see red and green iridescent sparkles
The Bronzed Tiger Beetles (Cicindela repanda) scampering along the Mississippi River beaches have subtle iridescent colors when you look closely.

Three young birdwatchers have raised and donated £1,112 to a charity close to their hearts, after completing a five-day Welsh cycling tour
In Switzerland, they've introduced tertiary treatment of sewage and are reaping the rewards of cleaner rivers + lakes.

Most likely a hybrid Orache, one of hundreds of a hybrid swarm, probably Atriplex x taschereaui with Atriplex glabriuscula nearby, but no sign (as usual) of A. longipes. Cargreen Cornwall. Common on the highest tide lines in estuaries here, often mistaken for Spear Lvd Orache.
Yes, you are right. It is happening here, too.
