Midnight lightning double strike ⚡🌃 Sears Tower and Hancock lit up the Chicago skyline at 12:01 AM Friday.

Early this morning, both Sears Tower and the Hancock were struck four times each during the thunder and lightning show in Chicago. This is 12:08am, Friday morning.

A vintage style illustration reminiscent of a Godzilla movie poster, in which the Sears Tower looms above a burning Chicago cityscape and shoots laser beams from its eyes. Ominous red hand-lettered text at the bottom reads, "WHO CALLED ME WILLIS."

(The company makes lamps of a lot of cool/iconic skyscrapers.)

Finally got a chance to take the water taxi today from Michigan Avenue to Chinatown. A nice way to get out on the water on a pleasant day.

The "Willis Tower" naming deal ended in March.

Graphical timetable for construction of Sears Tower, published in Chicago Tribune (October 3, 1971). Steel erection began June 1971 and was projected to end September 1972.

Did you know? Sears Tower was originally scheduled to be topped out in September 1972. That timetable obviously fell way behind, since steel erection wasn't completed for an additional 8 months. Construction was likely hindered by the frigid Chicago winters.

On this day in 1973, the final white beam was installed atop the 110-story landmark, signalling a new era for Sears, Roebuck, and Co. and turning the title of world's tallest building over to Chicago. Happy Birthday Sears Tower!
