They’re not wrong.

Man, it’s such a nice day outside and I’m stuck in the office working!! I have an urge to get outside and find some #birds
Well, we're officially, 100% #EV Only household. Trading in our Pacifica PHEV for an Ioniq 9, which will pair nicely with our Ioniq 6. Little nervous, as winter can really impact range, but having the ability to use Tesla Superchargers in a pinch will make life a bit easier I think. #Green #Cars
Found these two Tree Swallows on a cool morning. One was totally unbothered. The other had questions. Spring is looking good.

Great Blue Heron on full alert in the golden grass. Neck stretched, locked in, not moving a muscle. Whatever it was watching, I never saw it.

Looks like war is back on the menu boys. Sigh.
Hoping to spot one up here this Spring. I know the visit but they’ve evaded me!
Friday afternoon market manipulation.
Darn. So any way, Wisconsin is getting like a boat load of rain, hoping it stops soon, lots of homes being flooded due to dams failing under heavy load.
Sometimes you go out looking for birds and a dragonfly stops you cold. Shot at 500mm so it never knew I was there. That reflection in the still water. Worth every second.

Northern Shoveler swimming along with mouth open
Northern Shoveler, mid sentence. Whatever he was saying, it was urgent. That golden evening light was not hurting things either.

Common Grackle perched on a branch on a misty morning
Common Grackle. Common name, uncommon bird. That iridescent blue in the right light is something else entirely.

Two sandhill cranes flying over a marsh
Two Sandhill Cranes over the shoreline marsh, moving north like they have a thousand times before. Ancient birds on a timeless route.

Season Recap Teaser
Migration wraps up faster than it arrives. I will be posting a full season recap in late May including a species count and favorite shots. Follow along to see how it unfolds.

I tend to go for early morning walks and many times, I wish I had brought my camera. Today is one of those says. Sandhill Crane standing in a foggy, flooded field. It would have made for a great photo.
Great #Birding day, found 4 new species for the year, with 1 of them being a new #Lifer, the Winter Wren! 🐦
One bird that continues to evade me this year is the Meadowlark...Been searching for one but no luck.
Hermit Thrush bobbing it's tale on a branch
The Hermit Thrush is moving through and that tail dip is as charming as ever. One of the quieter signs of spring but one of my favorites. #HermitThrush #Birds #Wisconsin #NaturePhotography
That would have been cool to witness
The One That Got Away
A Sandhill Crane flew directly over my head last week. Perfect light. Camera was in the bag. Every birder has a version of this story. What is yours?

Wood duck swimming under a log
Wood duck perched on a fallen log
The Wood Duck might be the most painted bird in North America and somehow still looks unreal in person. This drake has been visiting my backyard marsh and I am still not over it. #WoodDuck #Bird #Wisconsin #Fujifilm #NaturePhotography
Winter wren perched on a log
Some birds demand silence just to find them. This Winter Wren moves like a secret through the understory, all bark and shadow and barely there. #Nature #Wildlife #Birds #Wisconsin #Fujifilm
I thought I remember this being for military and not so much the cost factor
Wisconsin Hotspots
Top spring migration spots in Wisconsin: Horicon Marsh, Point Beach State Forest, the Green Bay shoreline. Any spots I should add to the list?

So nice that Spring is back here in #Wisconsin. Going for a walk at 6:00 and it’s already 60 degrees!
Golden Hour
The best light lasts about 20 minutes and most people are still asleep for it. Standing at the edge of a wetland at first light in Spring is something you need to experience at least once.

And now we wait…setup a pop-up blind in my back yard overlooking a perch and some spicy #bird feed. I set this up originally yesterday and was hoping the birds would find the seed by now, but most was left from yesterday so I sprinkled in some more and now I wait!
What a putz
Backyard vs. Wild
New birders always ask where to go. My answer is always start where you are. I found a Barred Owl in my own backyard. Patience beats travel every time.

The Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS) and Goose & Swan Monitoring Programme (GSMP) are now on Bluesky! 🦢 We'll be sharing our latest research findings, how to get involved & vacant survey sites.
We’d love to know what you’ve seen on your surveys too, so tag us in your posts. 🦆 #Ornithology #UKBirding
Jealous...we're still brown and brown over here.
