A ‘shocking’ carbon discovery in Sweden’s forests A new study finds old-growth forests in Sweden store far more carbon than the industrial tree plantations that are rapidly replacing them, with soil accounting for most of the difference. Protecting u...

Gaps in tropical science from unrepresentative distribution of sampling and citation across natural terrestrial environments - Nature Communications Research in the tropics is unevenly distributed across regions and biomes. Here, the authors find that moist broadleaf forests account for 73% of all tropical citations but cover 29% of the land area,...

Global covariation of forest age transitions with the net carbon balance - Nature Ecology & Evolution A global analysis reveals regional trends of net forest ageing but also that widespread stand-replacing disturbances, such as fire and harvest, are driving declining forest age in many areas, often ac...

Global evidence for a positive relationship between tree species richness and ecosystem photosynthesis - Nature Plants Forests with higher tree species richness show greater photosynthesis by capturing more sunlight, highlighting the essential role of biodiversity in enhancing carbon uptake and supporting the global c...

A very nice study, showing that forests with more tree species capture more sunlight and show higher levels of photosynthesis! And this pattern is global.

Gaps in tropical science arising from biased spatial patterns of sampling and citation Effective environmental policies for the tropics depend on robust, representative scientific data. However, the extent to which existing field research accurately represents the vast environmental div...

Not quite.

Actually, not at all similar, as the new study follows how specific plots develop over time, not how the average plot develops (in terms of C storage).
