First bloom of the dahlia named Chewy. Hybridized by Swan Island Dahlias in OR in 2019. A late first bloom, but to be fair I planted her late- July 7. She is perfectly themed for fall.

That little cactus variety is really sweet. Do you know its name?

You need at least a 5 gallon pot. I use 7 gallon grow bags for some of mine. Basement is a great place if it stays between 40 and 50ish degrees. Any warmer and they start to sprout.

Dahlia of the day: Clearview Peachy. I expanded my dahlias from 40 to 100 this year and ordered a slew of new varieties- many of them ball form dahlias. Clearview Peachy is a huge ball, some blooms are 5-6 inches in diameter. Amazing!

Too beautiful to be real: Bloomquist Alan.

Newest dahlia bloom: Robann Royal. Hybridized in 1991 by Robert and Anna Moynahan. It’s a gorgeous shade of purple although my pictures make it look pink.
