If you want kids to be able to cycle to school, give them safe, protected cycle tracks - and somewhere secure to park when they arrive.

This is what that looks like in practice.

Moon in between the camera and the Earth, dark side visible.

Wow.

“NASA's EPIC camera aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite captured this unique view of the Moon as it moved in front of the sunlit side of Earth. This view shows the fully illuminated ‘dark side’ of the moon never visible from Earth.” www.planetary.org/space-images...

Last week, I encountered THE biggest wild native Irish tree of my life: the Brian Boru Oak, once part of Galway and Clare's mighty Slieve Aughty rainforest.

(Zoom in to see Sonia of the Woodland League for scale.)

Can you even imagine when this sort of magnificence was nothing special?

A black and white photograph of the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, Northumberland. Three consecutive arches lead towards a large window at the far end. A very dull grey sky can be seen.

Raindrops can bee seen against the stone work.

There’s something very fitting about visiting ruins on a grey, rainy day on a UK bank holiday.

Lindisfarne did not disappoint.

Cartoon of someone cycling on a narrow pavement on which the council have generously painted a cycle lane logo. They're really spoiling us.

The cyclist is not short of exciting obstacles to navigate, what fun: potholes, brambles, a car parked on the pavement, broken glass, and the pole of a sign that reads

Please use the cycle path

A female cycling friend pointed this out to me about our our main cycle routes into and around our town a few years ago. It really opened my eyes to male centric design choices and their impact on others.

I’ve only gone and taken off my cardigan and opened the back door!

And why is the sky that deep shade if blue!

A male mallard duck with grey and brown body, dark green head, white neck ring, and yellow bill has its wings straight up, partially obscuring his bright green head, as it lands behind a softly out of focus ridge of white snow that is artfully obscuring the bottom portion of the image.

I kinda like this shot of a Mallard drake touching down on a frozen pond behind an out of focus snow-covered ridge in the foreground.

I captured these one year ago today on the 1st March 2025. One of my most memorable mornings out in nature, where the conditions and light combined into the most spectacular photographs. It still feels like yesterday.

How far back in time can you understand English? An experiment in language change

"As his post goes on, his language gets older. 100 years older with each jump. The spelling changes. The grammar changes. Words you know are replaced by unfamiliar words" Fascinating. So how far back in time can YOU go?

The little spalted tamarind bowl I finished earlier. I wanted to make something that felt good to hold, and the shape of this is definitely very tactile. Needed to stabilise some slightly punky parts of the blank, but I’m pretty pleased with it. #woodturning #woodworking #woodsky #turning

I'm absolutely delighted to reveal my 10th overall Gold award image that was issued yesterday by the British Photographers Alliance. I'm particularly pleased with this as it is my first ever mono edited Gold image. Dumgoyne in low light
