Low saturation drawing of a barn owl. The owl is looking to the right, and has a petals from a decaying sunflower around the back of it's head. The background of the image is dark.
Graphite pencil study of the character 'Sister Ruth' from the 1947 film Black Narcissus. A woman in a nun's outfit looks beyond the viewer with a haunted look in her eyes, she has a very slight smile on her face.
A watercolour painting I did of a path winding off into the distance. The light is that of a hazy winter afternoon. Either sides of the path on the horizon are what looks like hills that form a valley, the sky colour on the right is a warm yellow sky as the sun dips behind the hill. The light is hazy, and suggests the time of day is in the afternoon, the sky colour on the left still has hints of blue. This is watercolour, then touched up with acrylic.
Graphite pencil drawing on moleskine paper of a Little Owl. The owl is perched on a surface and is full of attitude, looking intently to the viewers left. Background plain grey.

Also, finally forced myself to go make some art even though it scares me to work on art after losing all my ability (that's what it felt like, anyway) after breaking my wrist.
I have to psych myself up to it. Anyway, although I work digitally now, I find I still treat it like working in oils.
Astronaut Jeremy Hansen on his perspective of humanity: "I think there is enough for all. The purpose of humanity is joy and lifting one another up, creating versus destroying, and that's how I launched."
I've offset the cost thanks in part to my regular Ko-fi supporters. 🙌🏼 If you'd like to support the SciArt Feed and my work in general, you can do so below.
I'm gainfully employed these days, so no pressure.
(This is not a cost of entry for sharing your work in the Feed.) 🐡

Some great news for approved SciArt Feed contributors:
The SciArt Feed is hitting over 600,000 views per month! (on track for 770,000+ this month)!
To ensure everyone has a chance to see your work, I've moved to a much more expensive subscription so it won't be limited under 1 million views. 🐡

An illustration of three Chinese Paddlefish swimming in the Yangtze River. Hints of blue sky can be seen through the turquoise water surface. The river bottom is silty and sloping downward. This is still a work in progress, so the paddlefish don't have a lot of detail yet, but the viewer can see the basic colors. They are a darker gray on top, and fade to a cream/white on their bellies. Two of the fish are swimming closer to the river bottom, and one is swimming above them, almost in silhouette along the light of the water surface.
I had wanted to try and finish this for today's #SundayFishSketch, but alas, that did not happen. So here is a work in progress of some Chinese Paddlefish 🐡

Looking forward to starting this fun challenge in a few days! Going to use it as an excuse to do more drawing and play around with some different styles. Feel free to join in if you want... no set prompt list, just pick a flower and make some art!
#DrawAFlowerADay
Hi, nature-loving friends! I could use your help!
I plan to draw a flower a day in April as my own fun little art challenge. If you have any photos of your favorite blooms that you'd let me use as reference that would be a big help! Just drop them in the comments.
Thank you!!! 🌱🌻

Printed in a gradient of dark blue-green at the bottom through dark blue to light blue at the top, this is my 9.25” x 12.5” portrait of Japanese geochemist in the lab adjusting a round bottomed flask with other posts and an array of chemical glassware in the foreground. In the background are carved ocean waves so the top looks like sky over wavy ocean
March 22 is #WorldWaterDay & an apt birthday for Japanese #geochemist Katsuko Saruhashi (1920-2007) who created tools that allowed her to make 1st measurements of CO2 in seawater, raised the alarm about nuclear fallout, tracing it in oceans & researched peaceful uses of nuclear power. 🧪🐡👩🏻🔬 #histsci

I've added a few giclee prints of these maps to my stick at the Danforth Arts Market in Toronto!
I also have some fabric prints of them, including the long panoramas... are those things that people might be interested in?
My linocut print shows an Irish earthen mound or sídhe at night covered in dark green grass under a cyan blue starry sky with moon. The base of the mound is marked with grey rocks and there is a shaft-like entrance with post and lintel rocks that is black inside. Below this is a black region underground and then there’s a gathering of 6 human-like Aos Sí, 3 men and 3 women in long robes printed in a gradient of green and gold ink who appear to glow and have pointed ears. They wear flowers and branches and antlers in their hair. 11” x 14”
Some Irish folklore this St Patrick’s Day: the Sídhe, the Aos sí, the fair folk, the good people, or the people of the shee from Irish folklore, who live underground. You may know the banshee, or Bean sídhe or woman of the sídhe. In fact the very word Sídhe is the term for earthen mounds like the 🧵
