A reminder while Republicans bitch about Dems finishing the redistricting fight they started: they have full control of gov’t— they can pass a law banning gerrymandering any time they want. They won’t. Republicans aren’t mad gerrymandering exists; they’re mad that they’re not the only ones using it.

So far in 2026, ICE has arrested at least 47 people in Alaska. One was a pregnant woman. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s own guidelines advise that pregnant women shouldn’t be confined in immigration detention except in narrow circumstances.

ICE agents briefly detained a pregnant woman at an Eagle River women’s prison last month. The agency’s own guidelines advise that pregnant women shouldn’t be confined in immigration detention except in narrow circumstances. www.adn.com/alaska-news/...

A strange part of trying to teach data viz right now is writing alt text for the slides for the graph where the activity is writing the alt text (or interpreting).

And part of it is wanting more discussion so that more people can hear more perspectives on interpretation, and not pre-empting that.

However, because he was detained in South Texas, he was released without any cash or ID at a bus station in San Marcos. The family and I were trying to figure out where he was and how to send him money or buy his bus ticket. I also looked up that a Greyhound trip would be 3 days and 4 transfers.

Alright, I’m home now so here’s the Norm update. Yesterday at 4pm, I got a text from a family I’ve been helping who had a loved one abducted a couple of days after Renée Good’s murder. This was the family that Norm Nation kept from being evicted (and you delivered). ICE had released their loved one.

Key Points
Question
Does acetaminophen use during pregnancy increase children's risk of neurodevelopmental disorders?
Findings
In this population-based study, models without sibling controls identified marginally increased risks of autism and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) associated with acetaminophen use during pregnancy.
However, analyses of matched full sibling pairs found no evidence of increased risk of autism (hazard ratio, 0.98), ADHD (hazard ratio, 0.98), or intellectual disability (hazard ratio, 1.01) associated with acetaminophen use.
Meaning
Acetaminophen use during pregnancy was not associated with children's risk of autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in sibling control analyses. This suggests that associations observed in other models may have been attributable to confounding.
Abstract
Importance
Several studies suggest that acetaminophen (paracetamol) use during pregnancy may increase risk of neurodevelopmental disorders in children. If true, this would have substantial implications for management of pain and fever during pregnancy.
Objective
To examine the associations of acetaminophen use during pregnancy with children's risk of autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and intellectual disability.

Objective To examine the associations of acetaminophen use during pregnancy with children's risk of autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and intellectual disability.

Design, Setting, and Participants
This nationwide cohort study with sibling control analysis included a population-based sample of 2,480,797 children born in 1995 to 2019 in Sweden, with follow-up through December 31, 2021.
exposure
Use of acetaminophen during pregnancy prospectively recorded from antenatal and prescription records.
Main Outcomes and Measures
Autism, ADHD, and intellectual disability based on International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision and International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision codes in health registers.
Results
In total, 185909 children (7.49%) were exposed to acetaminophen during pregnancy. Crude absolute risks at 10 years of age for those not exposed vs those exposed to acetaminophen were 1.33% vs 1.53% for autism, 2.46% vs 2.87% for ADHD, and 0.70% vs 0.82% for intellectual disability. In models without sibling control, ever-use vs no use of acetaminophen during pregnancy was associated with marginally increased risk of autism (hazard ratio [HR], 1.05 [95% Cl, 1.02-1.08]; risk difference [RD] at 10 years of age, 0.09% [95% Cl,
-0.01% to 0.20%l), ADHD (HR, 1.07 [95% Cl, 1.05-1.10];
RD, 0.21% [95% Cl, 0.08%-0.34%]), and intellectual disability (HR, 1.05 [95% CI, 1.00-1.10]; RD, 0.04% [95% CI, -0.04% to 0.12%]).
To address unobserved confounding, matched full sibling pairs were also analyzed. Sibling control analyses found no evidence that acetaminophen use during pregnancy was associated with autism (HR, 0.98 |95% CI, 0.93-1.04]; RD, 0.02% [95% Cl, -0.14% to 0.18%]), ADHD (HR, 0.98 [95% Cl, 0.94-1.02]; RD, - 0.02% [95% CI, -0.21% to 0.15%]), or intellectual disability (HR, 1.01 [95% CI, 0.92-1.10]; RD, 0% [95% Cl, -0.10% to 0.13%1).

In short, acetaminophen exposure during pregnancy is not linked to the risk of developing autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability.

The study has been published in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). YES, it is PEER-REVIEWED.

In #Fairbanks #Alaska I traditionally think of 4/21 as the start of a four month period for getting summer projects done. The time speeds by, and by 8/21 you need to start preparing for a possible early winter. This year, the 4/21 start date is a bit premature! Lows near 0F forecast for tonight

We are discarding the mandatory flu vaccine requirement, effective immediately."

George Washington: we need a healthy fighting force, so let’s protect our people and mandate smallpox inoculation.

Secretary Hegseth: healthy forces are overrated. Let’s not protect our military from influenza.

High temperatures (ºF) in and around Alaska on Monday. Continued unusually sharp south-to-north temperature variation. Deadhorse high temp -6F (-21.1C) is the lowest so late in the season (obs since 1969). Meanwhile, daily record high of 53F (11.7C) at Cold Bay (obs since 1943). #akwx #weather

And then he gets up and says,

Republicans: Everything MUST be done to maximize resource development in Alaska! Even if it's at the expense of other fundamental rights! It's in the Constitution!

Well, how about taxes on oil companies?

Republicans: NOT LIKE THAT!!!

HB 133 would require the state to start actually paying its contractors on time, requiring it to pay contractors within 30 days.

Ofc, Republicans have a problem with it because it'd require the state to hire more people to process said payments on time.

There's an objection to even taking it up.
