Silhouette drawing in black ink of a Velociraptor in profile, facing left. It stands on a rocky patch of ground amid thorny shrubs, with its head raised and mouth open as though emitting a cry. It is of course appropriately feathered. This is not news, gentlefolks. >:}

Digital Drawing. The bright, ghost-like figure of a giant moa walks through the dim forest interior, framed by trees to the left and right. The ground is covered in ferns, and a layer of moss has grown on the trees. A few branches hang at the top of the frame.

in shallow water, a Megamastax charges through a large school of smaller fish with its mouth open. the smaller fish dart away forming a circular gap which the larger predatory fish swims within, continuing to charge in the hope of a meal

Megamastax is an ancient genus of bony fish from Silurian China, for a while it was only known from a lower jaw bone, but more recent material puts it at an estimate of around 1 metre long. one curious feature are the presence of compound tooth plates on its upper and lower jaws composed of many small backwards facing teeth, with a row of smaller singular teeth around the margin of the mouth

Fig. 2.

Lower first molars of Obdurodon species. (a) Occlusal view of Obdurodon insignis, image of cast of holotype SAMA P18087, mirrored for ease of comparison (imperfections in cast occur in the transverse valley and between the hypoconulids) and (b) Occlusal view of Obdurodon dicksoni from Archer et al. (1993, fig. 7.1). Other images are of SAMA P55061: (c) in occlusal; (d) buccal; and (e) lingual views. The interpretative drawings on the right of c–e are by G. Conway. NC1 is the anterolingual cusp of the talonid. Scale bar, 5 mm.

An digital illustration of a scrubland/pinyon-junper woodland.
There is shallow, flowing, water in a sandy wash with some large rocks. The plantlife is mostly rabbitbrush and big sagebrush, but pines, deciduous trees, and joshua trees are visible going further back toward the scrub covered hills.

These plants communities combine in these spots between the biomes we more commonly think of, making them extremely biodiverse.

While this particular landscape is based on the Mojave-San Gabriel Mountain transition zone, this particular place doesn't actually exist. Instead, the image is based on Puma Canyon (Phelan, CA) Lost Lake (San Bernardino, CA) and the drive up Lone Pine Canyon (Lytle Creek, CA)

A landscape I did for Transition Habitat.

This place doesn't actually exist though.
It's a made up landscape based on photos I took at Lost Lake, available photos of Puma Canyon, and my commute thru the San Gabriel Mountains.

The grey graphite drawings are the illustrations, the specimens were quite stained and the teeth were slightly translucent so an illustration was useful. There's a molar, premolar and a scapulocoracoid.
