Four pussy willow catkins on stem with bright blue sky in distance.
Game = poem. Solving words ladder contemplation.
Seed, power of creation,
Dense, containing future
Sensed, pulling from edges
Endless, unspooling generations
Idleness, what we need to see
Thanks to The New Yorker games dept. for this 4-18 list of words. #shuffalo

Nobel prize winning scientist Mary Brunkow, who works in Seattle at the Institute for Systems Biology.
Thank you to Mary Brunkow of Institute for Systems Biology in #seattle for speaking about her #Nobel prize journey. My PhD student friend gasped at slide of page 343 in the lab notes. (Because, they had to wait 342 pages for success. )

How many layers of nerd? #seattle theater event in April. Random built in. 5 science plays created from scratch in ... less than a week.
Research as catalyst, but theater as method.
No recording. You have to come see.

A person in jeans and hat crouches next to a tulip field of mostly purple flower that stretches almost to infinity. From Skagit River area of Washington state during peak bloom.
There needs to be a neuroscience of scale that explains when we see something - tulip X 1 million. #bloomscrolling #skagit #tulips
Yellow tulips with darker orange feathers of color at edges of each petal. About 6 tulips in view.

My daughter was part of that research in Sevilleta. (NM) So sorry to see this.
Long-term studies are vital to understanding how species and ecosystems are responding to climate change and other environmental stressors, but difficult to sustain under typical short-term grant cycles. LTER has been funding these since 1980.
This is breaking something that can’t be replaced.

What a tragic and unnecessary loss brought on by cruel policies cruelly enforced.
The broader picture is that while some of the GOP's war on science will be reversible, some won't. Never again in my lifetime will the best and brightest from around the world want to study and work in the US.
from the Guardian 'Unhinged madman': US politicians react to Trump's expletive-laden threat to Iran Marjorie Taylor Greene and Bernie Sanders among those responding with alarm to Trump writing 'open the fuckin' strait, you crazy bastards'

Nara has been an unrelenting supporter of our faculty and trainees throughout this chaos. I don't know when he sleeps! Sad to read this piece and reflect on all of the ways that this Administration is trying to destroy medical research.
You need to read this dean's description of science dissolving around him. From Nara Parameswaran at @michiganstateu.bsky.social

>10,000 STEM PhDs have left federal service over the past year (including 30% of the federal colleagues with whom I’ve worked closely). Those still left are holding federal science together with duct tape.
What an extraordinary act of sabotage against the American people.
If you missed it on March 7, listen to my speech here.

This is a great list of techniques for getting real information out of a Google search and avoiding AI slop and paid results.
