As it’s my ‘local’ butterfly it had to be the swallowtail for the final day of #butterflyweek
Stunning capture Craig 🌅✨️
Cypress trees appear as dark silhouettes against a colorful pre-dawn horizon, reflected clearly in still water.
Peregrine spotted on my morning commute
I will always pull over for a photo of a Peregrine Falcon (with prey) 🪶
Walking down along the river to a big glacial lake in the mountains. Trees run right down to the water and it's big enough to form a little beach. On a beautiful Spring day it's quite a sight.
At the edge of the Lough.

So, jetzt erzähl mal, Baum
was gibt es denn Neues an Eichhörnchentratsch.

This macro photograph captures the unopened bud of a striped tulip, covered in fine drops of dew. Description and Variety The flower has a classic goblet shape. Its petals are white and creamy with vibrant, artist-painted purple or crimson strokes. The plant's appearance is typical of modern varieties of the Triumph group: Flaming Flag is one of the most similar varieties, known for its lilac-purple "feather" strokes on a white background. Rembrandt's Favorite also has a similar variegated coloring, reminiscent of the paintings of great masters. Appearance Features Texture: The petals are dense, smooth, with a slight satin sheen. Details: Drops of water are visible on the petals, highlighting the freshness of a spring morning. Greenish veins, often found in Viridiflora-type varieties or young buds, are visible at the base of the petals. Background: The bud is located on a long, straight stem against a background of washed-out green leaves, accentuating the flower itself. This unusual coloring may be a varietal characteristic or—in rare cases in older varieties—a manifestation of the variegation virus, historically prized in Holland for creating unique patterns.
The freshness of a spring morning... Happy Tuesday to everyone! 👋🌷🔆

A close up of two Black-headed Gulls on a grassy riverbank at the River Coquet, Warkworth, Northumberland, England. They are in a side profile. One looking to the right of the picture and the other forwards and slightly to the right of the picture. They have a dark chocolate-brown hood, dark red bill, dark eye with white eye-ring, pale silver-grey back and wings, white body, black wing tips and wax-red legs. The background is blurred with green colours of reeds by the river.

A small brown bird perched on an old wooden fence post. It looks poised to take on an adventure or possibly just grab a meal.
Always wonderful to see a good #FencePost complete some lichen and topped off with an excellent bird

Thanks Andrea. He does look rather smart doesn't he 😊 Its such a joy to see and hear them again when they return from far afield.
A stone chat with warm, buff-orange plumage on its breast and a streaked brown back perches delicately on a weathered, lichen-covered branch.
A close-up photograph features a Stonechat—perched on a lichen-covered, thorny branch against a soft, blurred green background. The bird is captured mid-vocalization with its beak wide open, showing the inside of its mouth.

What's an orchid-hunter to do when he's Italy-bound for a couple of weeks of glorious Ophrys bee orchid action? Obviously take a wander in Kent and check out the range of forms that Early Spider Orchid (Ophrys sphegodes) is exhibiting this year... and catch up with an old friend. #orchids
A light aqua blue bird with a ruddy orange cap and black on the inner parts of the wing and tail feathers. It is clinging to a moss covered wire with dense vegetation in the background.
For all ye bird fans, here is a snazzy Scrub Tanager. These birds are found in the Colombian and Ecuadorian Andes and typically prefer drier habitats, but have moving into more humid areas following human disturbance. 🪶

Breathtaking✨🕊️.... .Such a serene and atmospheric capture dear Marg. Thanks for sharing 🤍🤗
The morning mist hovers over the silhouetted vista as the distant mountains are woken by pre daybreak light. The waterway is calm as it holds the reflection while edged with auburn grasses.

I can't let Rina's #ButterflyWeek go by without posting one of their Lepidoptera cousins: a moth. Moths are often tiny, hard to spot but just as beautiful as butterflies in their colours and patterns. Here's one of my favourites: the Mint Moth. @rina2012.bsky.social
