Universities are assembling larger and larger teams to deal with academic integrity issues--mostly focused on AI--while simultaneously holding AI "writing" contests, AI-themed events, "hey, come play with these fun tools!" The messages are so mixed, it's criminal. Because AI is bloated with money.

We knew this would happen. Note how realistic the visuals and voices are.
This AI deepfake video of Catherine Connolly ‘withdrawing’ from presidential contest and that Friday’s poll is ‘cancelled’ is live and viral on Facebook tonight.

A post from Instagram stories with a swipe up link for the Irish Times. A composite image of Leinster House, Jack Chambers and Paschal Donohoe is titled "Budget 2026: Main Points" but the bullet points that follow comprise non-sensical filler text (Lorem ipsum) and snippets apparently borrowed from a restaurant review (One point reads: "Borgo review: Well-priced and welcoming", the next "everything a good neighborhood", and finally "restaurant needsLorem ipsum dolor sit amet")

Someone at the IT is having a 'mare rushing out the Budget coverage.

This was a sponsored post in my Insta Stories.

The social team needs a break and a hug maybe.

Half of Colleges Don’t Grant Students Access to Gen AI Tools Half of chief technology officers say their institution doesn’t grant students access to generative AI tools. How does your college compare?

The suggestion here is that institutions are doing a disservice to students if the school doesn’t provide them with ai tools, which is *at best* an open question.

AI risks undermining the heart of higher education If students don’t make the effort to comprehend, synthesise and relate ideas for themselves, they will miss out on meaningful academic growth, says Zahid Naz

'when AI generates summaries, students bypass the cognitive engagement required to actively interpret academic work.

It is precisely this engagement – the effort to comprehend, synthesise and relate ideas – that catalyses learning.' 1/3

Dr Eamon Costello is also focused on tech but he makes the point that it's just part of a rich panoply of
experiences that are essential in an educational setting..
"You can use tech as a teaching tool, to differentiate instruction, to get diagnositic information from student, to figure out of they're learning what they're being taught"
