Ten baby California Quail stop as they approach the edge of a concrete bike path, because the drop off to the ground is as tall as they are. One bird is leaning over the edge, looking down. Each baby bird is a straw colored gold with dark brown stripes and spots that camouflage them very well in their usual habitat. If you look closely you can see tiny tufts of feathers sticking up from their foreheads.
