May's Sticker Club design is a Kern's flower scarab with magnolia flowers.

Magnolias predate bees & so evolved to be pollinated by beetles 🪲

Southern magnolias are my favorite tree, with their sweet flowers, leaves that are both shiny green & velvety orange, alien seed pods, & climbable limbs.

But for my more detailed paintings I almost never clear glaze. I just really love how crisp and clear the details is without glaze on top of it, but maybe I just haven't perfected the art of underglaze/clear glazing!

I will use a clear glaze if there is nice high contrast of colors between the clay body and the slip/underglaze, and if that underglaze looks good with my clear glaze. My clear glaze makes certain colors look much different than when they're left unglazed, so that will be a big factor!
