154: Caterpillar Panel 1: Present is an upset barn owl named Cupcake inside her nest. Her nest is a variety of browns with petals and a single forget-me-not flower on the outside. They're in a petal-covered flowering brown tree with a green sunset background. With her are her two babies, Sprinkles and Confetti, and potted plants that have sprouted. Cupcake begins, "I just feel so bad planting invasive plants for years, not realizing I should have been planting native..." Panel 2: Confetti replies, "Mama, you're like a caterpillar growing into a beautiful butterfly. It's okay to start somewhere and grow like the flowers." Cupcake and Sprinkles are also happy.

It's unrealistic to ask for a completely native garden. Do your best! It's okay to learn from past gardening! It's a whole learning experience. 💚
(Terminology wise, remember native plants cannot be "invasive". They can be "aggressive" spreaders.

Good mo(u)rning 🤎. A little story, the other day my three year old was out and she didn't expect the loud sound of a mourning dove's wings near her. Poor girl was in tears and then scared of the mourning dove. 😅 We're working on getting her to not be so afraid.

Probably will stick to reusable plastic cups. These disposable cardboard ones suck every drop of water meant for the plant and soil. Rather than watering above, they like water from below, keeping a layer in the tray. Then cover. Even better if you have a heating pad underneath.

FINALLY GOT MY HERBS TO SPROUT! 🌱 Specifically basil. lol. As the wise Pokopia Bulbasaur says, "Let's get this place HUMID!"

It is especially difficult as an adult assigned female at birth and not whyte. Lastly, an official diagnosis can be harmful in some situations, like if children are involved in a legal matter for example.

Self diagnosis hurts NOBODY. You cannot claim benefits when self diagnosed. Let people who know themselves better than a neurotypical who sees you for only three hours do what's best for them. It is a privilege to get officially diagnosed.

Ironically these mothers are often Neurodivergent themselves in some way.
Listening to other Autistics would teach you that though.

And...

All caps colorful letters say, "SELF DIAGNOSIS IS VALID". Background is purpleish and sparkly. There is a flying barn owl named Cupcake, great grey named Bagel, elf owl named Peanut, and northern saw-whet owl named Cinnamon. In the corners are logos that are rainbow infinity signs with a black and brown eye in each of the two centers. Under the eyes in pastel brown text reads "Actually" and "Owltistic".

Reminder this month and always to listen to folks who say they are Autistic. And not listen to the tragedy mothers who make their kid's diagnosis their entire personality.
