Blazing stars, goldenrod, sunflowers, and garlic have sprouted so far. 🌱 The blazing stars are growing in a old animal cracker container that I mostly beheaded with a twisty tie to keep it shut.

That shed I was calling our hellmouth. Rusty af but it hardly showed before. Fortunes Spindle vine trying to take over the world here. Was a fab privacy screen ‘til I discovered it’s a destructive invasive POS.

I’m down to the point where I need my husband’s man muscles with the saw. Or a friend with a chainsaw. WhyTF don’t we have a chainsaw? My husband helps me for about 15 minutes then takes off. Some of that there fat vinage is already cut but so hung up in upper parts we can’t pull it away. I may spray paint the shed so it looks less like a wart or a tetanus accident waiting to happen. Am I crazy? Maybe, but who cares, I’m mostly harmless.

Then and now. Do you see? Effing invasive and destructive vines with trunks like trees? #plantnative #wichita #kansas ps: there is a Mulberry trunk in the middle of that tangle I will save.

First Texas Primrose bloom! I moved this last year and it looked really rough for a while. Came back much stronger! I found a spot it liked better.

If that patch is in its native Cyprus or Crete where it supports native insect and butterflies, that's great. But to support the native ecosystem in say Mariposa, CA how about Mariposa Lillies, Inside-Out flower or Woodland Strawberry? #PlantNative

It just occurred to me that while I don't have the spoons to own a snake right now, I CAN make wild snakes' lives easier by creating a suitable habitat for them in my yard. Did you know Missouri has 47 different native species of snake? #plantnative

It's still 20 more days until the official start of #Spring, but the very first California Golden Poppy has just reared its pretty head today in The Militant's native plant garden!

Scarlet Bee Balm (Monarda didyma) isn’t just a flower — it’s a pollinator power plant.

Hummingbirds, native bees, butterflies — all fueled by one vivid red signal fire in midsummer.

Just got done gardening. Right in the middle of a snowstorm. The cool thing about planting native seeds that need cold stratification is that you can plant them in the winter. I did a chaos seeding method where I just threw a mix in various areas and will see what happens later! The continued snowfall will cover the seeds protecting them. Best to do it right before it snows, but we'll get snow into tomorrow. Getting a lot.
