New paper on Actias isabellae, focusing on its Alpine subspecies (galliaegloria).
Using genomics (RADseq) and ecological niche modelling, we found:
🧬 Extremely low genetic diversity and signs of inbreeding
🌡️ A major projected loss of suitable habitat by 2050

I’ve now personally heard of 22 colleagues taking DeRP in the USDA. These roles are irreplaceable. You can't train and hire expertise in these taxa overnight. We can't rehire what no longer exists in the US and undo this.

Delighted to see our new paper out, led by PhD student Asia Hoile. We explored new genes that emerged during the early evolution of Lepidoptera 🦋
Many cool insights which we think open up new questions to explore.
Get in touch if you have thoughts/want to discuss more!
