Who’d have thought a fossil-fuel shill like Trump would be the one to spark a green revolution? | George Monbiot The US attack on Iran has made the need for renewable energy inarguable, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Thank you @georgemonbiot.bsky.social

Israel escalates attacks on medics in Lebanon with deadly ‘quadruple tap’ Lebanese health ministry says killing of 91 healthcare workers shows ‘total disregard’ for international law

Israel murders Healthcare workers. They are breaking international law. The UK should not be supporting this nor supplying weapons that kill emergency ambulance rescuers.

‘My life has become a rollercoaster’: Francesca Albanese on death threats, danger and dread after accusing Israel of genocide When the UN special rapporteur published her report Anatomy of a Genocide in March 2024, she was lionised by some and demonised by the Trump government. She describes what happened next

The nub of it. “she is up against not just Trump’s and Benjamin Netanyahu’s governments, but also “predatory elites” around the world who are prepared to defend the accumulation of unprecedented riches with violence”

Private firms providing services to NHS made £1.6bn profit in two years, research finds Exclusive: MPs say profit-making levels in England are ‘scandalous’ and call for cap on amount private companies can make from NHS

Why are waiting lists so high in the NHS? Would an extra £1.6b paying for 9,178 doctors or 19,428 nurses have made a difference?
Private companies are ripping us off to give handsome payouts to shareholders whilst the NHS has to find “ savings”!

The government can find £380m to give to a foreign company building a factory, but not for resident doctors, vital to society, that saves lives!

Both doctors and the government are handling this strike badly – that’s why there is no end in sight | Polly Toynbee With the BMA making ‘impossible’ demands and Labour responding with Trumpian threats, negotiations are stuck – and it’s the NHS that will suffer, says Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee

During Covid we celebrated NHS staff and recognised how vital they were to society. How soon governments forget and think they can ride roughshod over doctors thinking they will work on the cheap!

I'd much rather they cap the repayment rate.

This does nothing for those middle or lower earners who still stand no chance of ever fully paying our loans back.

It just means that a slightly wider portion of the very highest earners one day get to be free of their loans.

Bad policy.

Ten years after Brexit, this is the UK: a divided nation frozen in time | Aditya Chakrabortty Tribalism has not faded over the past decade. Instead, new research reveals our politics has become ever-more polarised and fractious, says Guardian columnist Aditya Chakrabortty

“an obsession of one small fraction of the Westminster elite was made a public concern, given months of airtime and front pages”
Thanks to David Cameron capitulating to his backbenchers, we have the disaster that is Brexit.

The US military has 22 sites in the UK.

Every day long range US bombers are taking off here to drop bombs on Iran.

This is a rogue state carrying out war crimes, and threatening more.

The UK Government must grow a spine - and stop our bases being used for this war.

Reform cold calling public in bid to find ‘paper’ candidates for local elections Guardian journalist among those to get surprise request, though Farage denies party are ‘begging’ people to stand

Electoral reform is called for if you are not liking the prospect of “paper candidates”. It just reflects the stupidity of the current first past the post system which doesn’t deliver fairness for voters.

It appears that yet again someone has vandalised the Reform UK Office in Caerphilly.

Someone has replaced the word "Reform" with "Fascism".

So it now reads "Wales needs Fascism".

Back in October someone also wrote "now you can f*** off home" after the party lost in the Caerphilly by-election.

Why do some killer motorists get short prison sentences? UK road safety laws are letting them off the hook | Sally Kyd Two court cases last month illustrate how confusion over legal definitions are feeding into a culture of poor driving standards, says law professor Sally Kyd

Is it dangerous or careless driving that kills over 1600 children and adults a year in our public spaces?

Drivers must understand

Unions privately voice misgivings over BMA pay demands and doctors’ strikes Senior figures express concerns over medical union’s refusal of pay rise that is higher than offer to other NHS staff

Good on the BMA for standing up for its members to get pay restoration. Other unions representing hospital workers should take note and be more assertive in getting better deals for its members , they deserve it too.

Everyday those B52s fly over head and my heart sinks. Everyday I am reminded we are enabling the bombing of children and civilians by allowing US planes to use our airbases.
There is a choice, like Spain has made, not to support an illegal war. The government could make that choice too.
