I don't think that's unique to local politics, sadly (see Lab resistance to beaver releases and swift bricks as the were 'Tory policies').

What *is* irritating at a local level is use of #SaferStreets as a wedge issue when there's a plethora of evidence that it just doesn't work electorally.
