Portrait of Professor Daniel Tennant, University of Birmingham, featured for The Sir Philip Randle Lecture at The Biochemical Society 2027 Awards.
We're delighted to announce Professor Daniel Tennant as the recipient of the 2027 Sir Philip Randle Lecture! Work in the Tennant Research Group - Birmingham UK has been instrumental in identifying new pathways through which cells modify their metabolism under hypoxia.
Congratulations π₯ well deserved π
Proud to share the yeast telomerase structure, led by the talented @hongmiaohu.bsky.social in collaboration with the Wellinger and Chartrand labs. Discovered 37 years ago and took us nearly 7 years but totally worth the wait π.

βI think itβs a real mistake to forget where the pipeline for all this begins.β
John Diffley reflects on the importance of basic research, his mission to decode DNA replication and recreate it in the lab, and the scientific optimism of the 1960s that helped shape it.

Bioorthogonal reactions often create bulky, non-native linkages-great for labeling, but not ideal for installing natural PTMs.
We combine GCE with a chemoselective amide-bond forming reaction to install site-specific acylation PTMs.

Happy to see our work on defining a dependency map of short linear motifs out. We use base editing screens to install more than 80000 mutations into SLiMs in more than 4000 proteins to determine their contribution to cell fitness. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
We are excited to be recruiting a new tenure track group leader in the Structural Studies Division at MRC LMB! It is an amazing place to start your own lab.

DNA replication globally disrupts the epigenome. But does this create a chromatin-access opportunity for TF binding to facilitate cell identity change? Now π«ππ©π₯π’-ππππ-π¬ππͺ shows π₯π¦ π―π°π·π° chromatin opening & TF binding occurs specifically post-replication, in cellular differentiation & reprogramming!
Best conference location ever! Thank you @fusionconf.bsky.social for the excellent DNA replication and repair conference πππ
