Join us at #WildSummitUK on Thurs 9 Sept for our Phabulous Pheasant Show, where we'll be ridiculing the absurd annual release of 50 Million non-native Pheasants & exploring the environmental impacts of this grotesque 'sport'.

Our show runs 1pm - 1.45pm, Lantern Hall.

This morning is rather wonderful! I took a stroll along the coast path & saw more butterflies than I could keep track of, heard the water gentle lapping at the rocky shore & the evocative call of a curlew - all while feeling the warm heat from the sun on my back. Great way to start the day!

Yes, although was always disappointed not to see more of the species!!

This was such a treasured book for me as a child! I took it on every holiday, desperate to see and identify more butterflies.
I’m crap at identifying butterflies these days (probably because it’s been years since I looked inside this book) but the lessons of how to use guides like this remain. 🦋

Great - I’ll look that up!! (Embarrassingly I didn’t know the species at all, so thanks for the ID 😊)

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any more dramatic on the #Springwatch live wildlife cameras, a weevil invaded the ant colony. It’s been a dramatic battle as the ants have fought to keep the weevil out of their nest for the past 20mins!!

Either I’ve been spending too much time staring at these chicks or this is really starting to resemble a monochrome macaroni penguin… it’s got the “crest” and the grumpy look. Do I just need to get out more?! Thoughts? #springwatch

It was so exciting when my photo was shown on @bbcspringwatch.bsky.social this time last year! Lots of juvenile starlings in the garden again this year but none trying to eat the adults heads so far! 🤣

Obsessed with the tawny chick today on #Springwatch cameras 😍 It seems to have a young dead rat as a ready meal in its nest, although it’s proving a little big to eat right now!

Am completely in love with the short-eared owls on #Springwatch Fascinating insight into a nest you rarely come across, let alone get a front seat to view!

This is something I never thought I’d write for Portishead… I’ve heard a cuckoo 😱 I heard it at the weekend & assumed someone was playing a recording. Upon examination of this assumption, I’ve realized this is far less likely than it actually being a passing migrant due to perfect location & timing!

A curious Southern rockhopper checks me out with a somewhat bemused expression (who can blame them?!)

They are such characterful penguins & it was great to spend so much time with them in the Falklands while filming #secretsofthepenguins

It’s #WorldPenguinDay which seems like a pretty good excuse to start sharing the latest series I worked on as a producer - #SecretsOfThePenguins is out now on Disney Plus.

Have you seen it yet? 🐧

I don’t know whether I was more surprised to see a hedgehog or the hedgehog more surprised to see me at 0350 this morning! A wonderful wild treat in Portishead 😍

Back in the UK and I saw two swallows yesterday! Always great to see these birds, especially after a long migration.

It’s #SuperSeabirdSunday and todays picture is another from Nightingale Island… an Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross chick! This bird was right next to the path and a little curious as I carefully sauntered past. Check out those huge feet!!

Well it’s #SuperSeabirdSunday and I have news as well as a picture to share… this week, I landed on Nightingale Island near Tristan da Cunha 😁 It was wildlife heaven. First time seeing a colony of Northern Rockhoppers, distinguished by long crest feathers that mimic the tussock in which they nest.

They spend the entire time at sea, feeding and resting in the water 😱 Occasionally they pop up on ice floes or islands, if they are near to them. Foraging often occurs near edge of pack ice in winter though.

Thank you so much! 😊 Will reach out to these groups to see if anyone knows L10!

Seabirds in crisis: Plastic ingestion induces proteomic signatures of multiorgan failure and neurodegeneration Plastic consumption in seabirds causes blood signatures of widespread organ damage including brain, stomach, kidney, and liver.

🧪 Seabirds and Plastic

New research shows seabird chicks that ingest plastic suffer multiorgan failure and neurodegeneration - even if they look healthy.

Plastic pollution is more than an eyesore - it is a biological threat.
